Wasps of the subfamily Bembicinae (Hymenoptera, Crabronidae) in the collection of the Institute of Zoology, Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan

open access: yesActa Biologica Sibirica
The collection materials of Crabronidae wasps in Institute of Zoology (Baku) presented at the following 16 species from seven Bembicinae genera. Sixteen species are recorded from Azerbaijan, two – from Russia, and six species from Iran.

Status of ash (Fraxinus spp.) in mixed hardwood post‐outbreak forests near the epicentre of the emerald ash borer invasion

open access: yesAgricultural and Forest Entomology, EarlyView.
The persistence and health of ash populations were characterized in post‐outbreak forests near the epicentre of the emerald ash borer (EAB) invasion in North America. Regenerating ash remained abundant, but densities of understory ash were higher in wetlands (hydric), while ash remained at the seedling stage in riparian (mesic) and upland (xeric ...

Two new records species of the genera Odontocolon and Xorides (Hymenoptera, Ichneumonidae, Xoridinae) from South Korea

open access: yesJournal of Asia-Pacific Biodiversity
The subfamily Xoridinae known to parasitize 'wood-boring' beetles and wood wasps, has six species recorded from South Korea so far. This study reports two species, Odontocolon rufum and Xorides iwatensis, for the first time in Korea and includes a ...

The dual crisis: Climate change simultaneously drives pollinator decline and pest outbreaks

open access: yesAgricultural and Forest Entomology, EarlyView.
Climate change acts as an asymmetric ecological filter, favouring r‐selected pest traits (rapid reproduction, generalism) while disadvantaging K‐selected pollinators. For every 1°C of warming, bee species richness declines ~25% since the 1990s, while pest‐induced crop losses increase by 10%–25%. A network‐centric approach integrating climate‐responsive

Comparing time‐lapse photography and traditional human observation in collecting crop pollinator visitation data Ajastetun valokuvauksen ja perinteisen suoran havainnoinnin vertailu kerättäessä tietoa pölyttäjien kukkakäynneistä viljelykasveilla

open access: yesAgricultural and Forest Entomology, EarlyView.
Time‐lapse photography with commercially available trail cameras provides a competitive alternative to direct human observations for documenting pollinator flower visits, but its performance varies between crops. In apple, the cameras recorded more diverse pollinator assemblages than the human observer due to larger temporal coverage of the camera ...

Combined effects of the landscape and crop management on ant communities

open access: yesAgricultural and Forest Entomology, EarlyView.
At small spatial scales, agricultural management acts as a stronger ecological filter than landscape context, significantly shaping ant community composition. Species richness and frequency did not differ among treatments, indicating the predominance of generalist species.

Reflections on Traceability for Visualization Research

open access: yesComputer Graphics Forum, EarlyView.
Abstract Decades of advocacy for reproducibility and replication have advanced open, transparent practices in the sciences. However, traditional notions of reproducibility fit poorly with design‐oriented visualization research, where insights emerge through subjective, situated, and iterative work.

Thinking Inside the Box: Considerations for Putting Data Physicalization Workshops in a Box

open access: yesComputer Graphics Forum, EarlyView.
Abstract Visualization researchers utilize workshops both for applied research and to engage different populations with visualization‐based activities. While there are many benefits to running visualization workshops, their utility and impact rely on the presence of a researcher who has deep knowledge about visualization theory and practice.

Larval character evolution in Holometabola (Insecta)

open access: yesCladistics, EarlyView.
Abstract Larvae, a novel type of immature stage, are a crucial innovation of the Holometabola. Larval features therefore provide key evidence for reconstructing evolutionary transformations in this megadiverse group. Here we present the first formal reconstruction of larval character evolution, using maximum parsimony and Bayesian ancestral‐state ...
