The finite element method is used in the thermal and structural analyses of a 3-channel silicon-crystal monochromator in a wiggler x-ray beam. Liquid gallium and water are used as coolants. Liquid gallium is fed into the monochromator by an induction pump designed and built for this purpose at Argonne National Laboratory.
