Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Combined effects of rain-shelter cultivation and deficit micro-sprinkler irrigation practice on yield, nutrient uptake, economic benefit and water productivity of Panax notoginseng in a semi-arid region of China

open access: yesAgricultural Water Management
The excessive rainfall and irrigation amount in the facility herbal medicine production system (FHmPS) in China leading to a severe root rot disease of Panax notoginseng, which endangers root yield and quality, compromise economic profit and waste ...

Water use efficiency of Irish dairy processing [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Dairy Science, 2019
Dairy processing uses a significant amount of water for processing and cleaning. Withdrawing and distributing water and treating wastewater represent significant costs to the Irish dairy processing industry. Stringent discharge limits also add pressure for water use efficiency, particularly during peak production months.

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Coupling effects of irrigation level and terrain slope on disease, yield and quality of Panax notoginseng under micro-sprinkler irrigation

open access: yesAgricultural Water Management
At present, the state has introduced the policy of forest Chinese herbal medicine planting planning, strictly prohibiting the planting of Chinese herbal medicine in basic farmland, coupled with the fact that the continuous cropping obstacles of Panax ...

Irrigation water use efficiency: A water balance approach

open access: yesRiver, 2022
Irrigated agriculture plays a major role in the livelihoods of nations all over the world and with the agricultural water use sector being the largest of all water use sectors, there have been increased expectations that the sector should increase ...

Urban Water Conservation and Efficiency Potential in California [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Improving urban water-use efficiency is a key solution to California's short-term and longterm water challenges: from drought to unsustainable groundwater use to growing tensions over limited supplies.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Morphological and physiological responses of Spatholobus suberectus Dunn to nitrogen and water availability

open access: yesPhotosynthetica, 2019
A pot study was conducted to elucidate morphological and physiological responses of Spatholobus suberectus Dunn accessions to four nitrogen application rates (0, 10, 20, and 30 mmol L-1) and two watering regimes (daily irrigation and irrigation every 10 ...
