Linking water use efficiency with water use strategy from leaves to communities
SummaryLimitations and utility of three measures of water use characteristics were evaluated: water use efficiency (WUE), intrinsic WUE and marginal water cost of carbon gain () estimated, respectively, as ratios of assimilation (A) to transpiration (E), of A to stomatal conductance (gs) and of sensitivities of E and A with variation in gs.

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

Canopy water use efficiency (above-ground biomass over lifetime water loss, WUEcanopy) can influence yield in wheat and other crops. Breeding for WUEcanopy is difficult because it is influenced by many component traits. For example, intrinsic water use efficiency (WUEi), the ratio of net carbon assimilation (Anet) over stomatal conductance, contributes

Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.

The Effect of Surface and Subsurface Drip Irrigation System on Qualitative and Quantitative Characteristics of Dates of Kabkab Cultivar [PDF]
Increased production per unit volume of consumed water requires more precise planning in selecting the appropriate irrigation method for the optimal use of available water resources in the agricultural sector.

CT10 regulator of kinase (CRK) and CRK‐Like (CRKL) are signaling adaptors driving cell adhesion, motility, differentiation, and proliferation. SH2‐domain containing (SH) proteins are enriched in YXXP motifs which when phosphorylated create preferred binding sites for CRK family SH2 domains.

IRRIGATION STRATEGIES WITH WATER DEFICIT IN ‘TOMMY ATKINS’ MANGO TREE [PDF]
With the limited availability of water in semi-arid regions, it is necessary that irrigation is accurate and there is high water use efficiency. This study aimed to evaluate the regulated deficit irrigation (RDI) and partial rootzone drying (PRD) in ...

Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...

Water Use Efficiency in Young Citrus Trees on Metalized UV Reflective Mulch Compared to Bare Ground
A precise estimation of plant water use is crucial for efficient irrigation management and understanding of plant–water interactions. Metalized-polyethylene mulch as a ground cover, combined with irrigation management, can improve water and ...

Water and radiation use efficiencies of irrigated biomass sorghum in a Mediterranean environment
Biomass sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L. Moench) is a crop that can be used for energy production in the bioethanol chain and a greater knowledge of its potential and response to irrigation water levels could help to assess its potential diffusion in ...
