The effect of nordic walking with poles with an integrated resistance shock absorber on muscle stiffness and elasticity indicators in postmenopausal women

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology
IntroductionUnderstanding the impact of physical activity and its relationship with changes in the biomechanical parameters of the myofascial system at different stages of menopause is important for planning and implementing effective action strategies ...

Dataset of water activity measurements of alcohol:water solutions using a Tunable Diode Laser

open access: yesData in Brief, 2017
The data presented in this article are related to the research article entitled “RH-temperature phase diagrams of hydrate forming deliquescent crystalline ingredients” (Allan and Mauer, 2017) [1]. The data are water activity measurements of alcohol:water

Inhibition of CDK9 enhances AML cell death induced by combined venetoclax and azacitidine

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The CDK9 inhibitor AZD4573 downregulates c‐MYC and MCL‐1 to induce death of cytarabine (AraC)‐resistant AML cells. This enhances VEN + AZA‐induced cell death significantly more than any combination of two of the three drugs in AraC‐resistant AML cells.

Influence of water activity and anti-fungal compounds on development and competitiveness of Fusarium verticillioides

open access: yesPhytopathologia Mediterranea, 2014
This investigated the roles of water activity (aw) and fungicides on the competitiveness of two Fusarium verticillioides strains against other spoilage fungi commonly present in maize (F. proliferatum, Aspergillus niger, A. flavus, A.

The Economic Argument for Cleaning Up the Chesapeake Bay and its Rivers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Failure to "Save the Bay" threatens the Bay's value as an economic driver. Conversely, investing in clean-water technology creates jobs, generates economic activity, and saves money in the long run. Hence, the protection and restoration of the Chesapeake

A synthetic benzoxazine dimer derivative targets c‐Myc to inhibit colorectal cancer progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Benzoxazine dimer derivatives bind to the bHLH‐LZ region of c‐Myc, disrupting c‐Myc/MAX complexes, which are evaluated from SAR analysis. This increases ubiquitination and reduces cellular c‐Myc. Impairing DNA repair mechanisms is shown through proteomic analysis.

Aquaporins (Water Channels): Role in Vasopressin-Activated Water Transport

open access: yesExperimental Biology and Medicine, 1998
The discovery of water channels (aquaporins) was a breakthrough in research on water transport. Aquaporins are a family of intrinsic membrane proteins that function as water-selective channels (except aquaporin-3 and aquaporin-7, which are permeable to urea and glycerol as well) in the plasma membranes of many cells.

Adaptaquin is selectively toxic to glioma stem cells through disruption of iron and cholesterol metabolism

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Adaptaquin selectively kills glioma stem cells while sparing differentiated brain cells. Transcriptomic and proteomic analyses show Adaptaquin disrupts iron and cholesterol homeostasis, with iron chelation amplifying cytotoxicity via cholesterol depletion, mitochondrial dysfunction, and elevated reactive oxygen species.

Patient‐specific pharmacogenomics demonstrates xCT as predictive therapeutic target in colon cancer with possible implications in tumor connectivity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study integrates transcriptomic profiling of matched tumor and healthy tissues from 32 colorectal cancer patients with functional validation in patient‐derived organoids, revealing dysregulated metabolic programs driven by overexpressed xCT (SLC7A11) and SLC3A2, identifying an oncogenic cystine/glutamate transporter signature linked to ...
