A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

How to Collect your Water Sample and Interpret the Results for the Poultry Analytical Package [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Rapidly growing birds may consume up to twice as much water as feed (Scantling and Watkins 2013), which means a plentiful supply of clean water is crucial for poultry health and productivity.

Aggressive prostate cancer is associated with pericyte dysfunction

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumor‐produced TGF‐β drives pericyte dysfunction in prostate cancer. This dysfunction is characterized by downregulation of some canonical pericyte markers (i.e., DES, CSPG4, and ACTA2) while maintaining the expression of others (i.e., PDGFRB, NOTCH3, and RGS5).

Room temperature silanization of Fe3O4 for the preparation of phenyl functionalized magnetic adsorbent for dispersive solid phase extraction for the extraction of phthalates in water

open access: yesGreen Processing and Synthesis, 2019
The preparation of magnetic solid adsorbents for solid phase extraction often involved time-consuming stepwise reaction and high-temperature reaction. In this study, the coating of silica and the functionalization of magnetite were performed in a single ...

Dual targeting of RET and SRC synergizes in RET fusion‐positive cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Despite the strong activity of selective RET tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs), resistance of RET fusion‐positive (RET+) lung cancer and thyroid cancer frequently occurs and is mainly driven by RET‐independent bypass mechanisms. Son et al. show that SRC TKIs significantly inhibit PAK and AKT survival signaling and enhance the efficacy of RET TKIs in ...

Global evaluation of heavy metal content in surface water bodies: A meta-analysis using heavy metal pollution indices and multivariate statistical analyses.

open access: yesChemosphere, 2019
Water is polluted by increasing activities of population and the necessity to provide them with goods and services that use water as a vital resource. The contamination of water due to heavy metals (HMs) is a big concern for humankind; however, global ...

Polydopamine-Coated Magnetite as a Sensing Material for the Optical Detection of Cationic Surfactants

open access: yesChemosensors
The sensing of surfactants is a topic of interest for industrial and environmental purposes. Polydopamine-coated magnetite (Fe3O4@PDA) can be a relevant support for the detection of cationic surfactants in water samples.

Direct As(V) Determination Using Screen-Printed Electrodes Modified with Silver Nanoparticles

open access: yesNanomaterials, 2020
Carbon-nanofiber-based screen-printed electrodes modified with silver nanoparticles (Ag-NP-SPCNFEs) were tested in a pioneering manner for the direct determination of As(V) at low μg L−1 levels by means of differential pulse anodic stripping voltammetry.

Detection of circulating tumor DNA in colorectal cancer patients using a methylation‐specific droplet digital PCR multiplex

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We developed a cost‐effective methylation‐specific droplet digital PCR multiplex assay containing tissue‐conserved and tumor‐specific methylation markers. The assay can detect circulating tumor DNA with high accuracy in patients with localized and metastatic colorectal cancer.
