Integrative description of Macrobiotus anshui sp. nov. from the Madeira Island and new record of Macrobiotus dolosus Bertolani, Cesari, Giovannini, Rebecchi, Guidetti, Kaczmarek and Pilato, 2022 (Macrobiotidae; persimilis-polonicus complex) from England

open access: yesThe European Zoological Journal
Tardigrades from England and Madeira are poorly known and up to now only a few species of the genus Macrobiotus have been reported from both regions. In this paper we describe a new species, Macrobiotus anshui sp. nov.

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Integrative description of two new Milnesium species (Apochela: milnesiidae) from Canada and Nepal

open access: yesThe European Zoological Journal
Global knowledge of tardigrade diversity is limited, and there are still regions with poorly studied fauna. We applied an integrative taxonomy approach to describe two new eutardigrade species from Nepal and Canada.

Assessment of Landsat-Based Evapotranspiration Using Weighing Lysimeters in the Texas High Plains

open access: yesAgronomy, 2020
Evapotranspiration (ET) is one of the largest data gaps in water management due to the limited availability of measured evapotranspiration data, and because ET spatial variability is difficult to characterize at various scales.

Colorectal cancer‐derived FGF19 is a metabolically active serum biomarker that exerts enteroendocrine effects on mouse liver

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Meta‐transcriptome analysis identified FGF19 as a peptide enteroendocrine hormone associated with colorectal cancer prognosis. In vivo xenograft models showed release of FGF19 into the blood at levels that correlated with tumor volumes. Tumoral‐FGF19 altered murine liver metabolism through FGFR4, thereby reducing bile acid synthesis and increasing ...

On four species of Copepoda new to Chesapeake Bay, with a description of a new variety of Paracalanus crassirostris Dahl [PDF]

open access: yes, 1944
At this time, four additional species, unreported by Wilson [1932], can be added to the list of those species to be found within the limits of the bay.

Identification of serum protein biomarkers for pre‐cancerous lesions associated with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This work identified serum proteins associated with pancreatic epithelial neoplasms (PanINs) and early‐stage PDAC. Proteomics screens assessed genetically engineered mice with abundant PanINs, KPC mice (Lox‐STOP‐Lox‐KrasG12D/+ Lox‐STOP‐Lox‐Trp53R172H/+ Pdx1‐Cre) before PDAC development and also early‐stage PDAC patients (n = 31), compared to benign ...

ON WATER BEARS

open access: yesFlorida Entomologist, 2003
Abstract Tardigrades, or “water bears” are microscopic invertebrates that require water in their environment and are found in freshwater, marine and terrestrial habitats. The morphology and phylogeny of this “little known phylum” is described as are ways the naturalist might collect water bears.
