A Depolarizing Leak in Sodium Bicarbonate Cotransporter NBCe1 Causes Brain Edema

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives SLC4A4 encodes electrogenic sodium bicarbonate cotransporter NBCe1, prominently expressed in kidney and brain. Recessive loss‐of‐function variants in SLC4A4 cause proximal renal tubular acidosis, no brain edema. In the brain, NBCe1 is expressed by astrocytes, where it regulates pH and mediates astrocyte volume changes.

Spatiotemporal Patterns of Precipitation in Qaidam Basin from 2000 to 2019 Base on the ANUSPLIN Model

open access: yesGaoyuan qixiang
The Qaidam Basin is sensitive to the warming and humidification trend of climate change on the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau, and an ecologically vulnerable region.Evaluating its spatiotemporal patterns of precipitation is crucial for the rational utilization ...

β‐Catenin/c‐Myc Axis Modulates Autophagy Response to Different Ammonia Concentrations

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, Volume 9, Issue 3, March 2025.
Ammonia, detoxified by the liver into urea and glutamine, impacts autophagy differently at varying levels. Low ammonia activates autophagy via c‐Myc and β‐catenin, while high levels suppress it. Using Huh7 cells and Spf‐ash mice, c‐Myc's role in cytoprotective autophagy is revealed, offering insights into hyperammonemia and potential therapeutic ...

Trees as large-scale natural phononic crystals: Simulation and experimental verification

open access: yesInternational Soil and Water Conservation Research, 2019
Urban trees are usually planted on a periodic layout in the spatial configuration. We regard urban trees as large-scale natural phononic crystals. The entire forest is reduced to a reasonable “tree-soil” unit cell based on the phononic crystal theory and

Water Quality Management: Strategies for Conservation of Bhopal Waters

open access: yesEnvironment Conservation Journal, 2001
The city of Bhopal is crowned with lakes and reservoirs, which are major sources of potable water, recreational activities and aquaculture. These reservoirs are under great environmental stress due to agricultural  run offs, human encroachments,   siltation and growth of aquatic needs.

Evaluation of the GreyWater Footprint Comparing the Indirect Effects of Different Agricultural Practices [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Increasing global food demand and economic growth result in increasing competition over scarce freshwater resources, worsened by climate change and pollution. The agricultural sector has the largest share in the water footprint of humanity.

A Thermodynamic 3D Model for the Simulation of Diffusion‐Controlled Alloying Processes in Heterogeneous Material Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A numerical model resulting from irreversible thermodynamics for describing transport processes is introduced, focusing on thermodynamic activity gradients as the actual driving force for diffusion. Implemented in CUDA C++ and using CalPhaD methods for determining the necessary activity data, the model accurately simulates interdiffusion in aluminum ...
