Runoff and soil erosion influenced by abandonment of sloping land on the Loess Plateau: Insights from eight years of monitoring

open access: yesInternational Soil and Water Conservation Research
A substantial area of abandoned sloping farmland on the Loess Plateau is undergoing natural vegetation succession, which significantly influences runoff and soil loss.

Slope Gradient and Vegetation Cover Effects on The Runoff and Sediment Yield in Hillslope Agriculture

open access: yesTurkish Journal of Agriculture: Food Science and Technology, 2015
Cultivation of field crops is a challenge and risky business in sloping areas. A study was conducted as a demonstration model for the sloppy lands of Fateh Jang, Pakistan.

Conservation Contracting in Heterogeneous Landscapes: an application to watershed protection with threshold constraints [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
A key issue in the design of land use policy is how to integrate information about spatially variable biophysical and economic conditions into a cost-effective conservation plan. Using common biophysical scoring methods, in combination with economic data

Thermomechanical Fatigue and Creep–Fatigue Interaction of Inconel 718 Additively Manufactured by Laser Beam Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Thermomechanical fatigue tests of laser beam powder bed fusion (PBF‐LB) Inconel 718 show that the additively manufactured material reaches almost the lifetimes of conventionally‐rolled material under no‐dwell conditions. Introducing dwell times at the maximum temperature markedly reduces the lifetimes due to pronounced grain boundary sliding associated

Water Conservation: A step to conserve water is the step to secure the future…..

open access: yes, 2023
The most essential among all the natural resources on earth is water. A drop of water is worth more than a sack of gold for the thirsty man. If each one of us makes efforts to save water today, it will save us later. Water conservation is the most effective and environmentally sound method to fight global warming.

TARGETING AND THE ECONOMICS OF CUMULATIVE WATERSHED EFFECTS [PDF]

open access: yes
This study empirically investigates environmental benefits at the watershed level from conservation practices, which are typically non-linear. A conservation tillage adoption model is linked to the Soil and Water Assessment Tool model to examine the ...

Numerical Modeling of Tank Cars Carrying Hazardous Materials With and Without Composite Metal Foam

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Large‐scale puncture models consisting of hazardous materials (HAZMATs) tank car with protective steel–steel composite metal foam (S–S CMF) are solved numerically. Tank car plate with added 10.91–13.33 mm thick S–S CMF layer does not puncture. Protective S–S CMF absorbs impact energy, reduces plate deformation, and prevents shear bands formation ...

Economic Analysis of Water Conservation Policies in the Texas Panhandle [PDF]

open access: yes
Due to declining water availability from the Ogallala Aquifer, management policy alternatives for extending the life of the aquifer to sustain rural economies in the Texas Panhandle are evaluated.

Evaluation of Plasticity and Creep Parameters From Tensile Stress–Strain Data for a Range of Strain Rates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This plot compares experimental tensile stress–strain curves (with 4 different strain rates) and corresponding modelled curves (obtained using the optimised sets of Voce and Miller–Norton parameter values shown). The inferred M‐N values, characterizing the creep, are very similar to those obtained via conventional creep testing.
