Metabolic Effects of Water Deprivation [PDF]

open access: yesClinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine, 1986
Under the conditions of pair feeding, water-deprived rats predominantly use fat as a metabolic fuel, whereas total energy turnover as measured by oxygen consumption is not altered. Plasma free fatty acids are elevated in dehydrated rats, indicating enhanced lipolysis.

THE EXPRESSION PROFILES OF SELECTED GENES IN DIFFERENT BEAN SPECIES (PHASEOLUS SPP.) AS RESPONSE TO WATER DEFICIT [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Central European Agriculture, 2012
The aim of this study was to compare expression profiles of a number of transcripts from leaves of different Phaseolus species under drought stress, in order to ascertain whether changes in their expression in Phaseolus spp.

Surviving in the Brine: A Multi-Omics Approach for Understanding the Physiology of the Halophile Fungus Aspergillus sydowii at Saturated NaCl Concentration

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2022
Although various studies have investigated osmoadaptations of halophilic fungi to saline conditions, only few analyzed the fungal mechanisms occurring at saturated NaCl concentrations.

Effect of hydric stress on intake, growth performance and nutritional status of Nguni goats

open access: yesItalian Journal of Animal Science, 2020
Limited water intake affects livestock. Though small ruminants are more resilient to suboptimum water intake compared to other species of livestock, tolerance abilities differ among breeds.

Physiological and Molecular Responses of ‘Dusa’ Avocado Rootstock to Water Stress: Insights for Drought Adaptation

open access: yesPlants, 2021
Avocado consumption is increasing year by year, and its cultivation has spread to many countries with low water availability, which threatens the sustainability and profitability of avocado orchards. However, to date, there is not much information on the

Water Deprival and Replenishment in Poults

open access: yesPoultry Science, 1965
Abstract THE NEED of turkeys for an adequate and continuous supply of drinking water often is emphasized in practical treatises on turkey raising. Although no supporting data are offered, Asmundson and Kratzer (1951) warn against allowing poults to go without water even for short periods.

Gastric emptying of liquids in rats dehydrated by water deprivation

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Medical and Biological Research, 1997
The gastric emptying of liquids was investigated in male Wistar rats (8 to 10 weeks old, 210-300 g) dehydrated by water deprivation. In this model of dehydration, weight loss, hematocrit and plasma density were significantly higher in the dehydrated ...
