Concentration polarization and water dissociation in ion-exchange membrane electrodialysis. Mechanism of water dissociation

Journal of the Chemical Society, Faraday Transactions 1: Physical Chemistry in Condensed Phases, 1986
A relationship between the current density i and the current efficiency η of H+ and OH– ions generated by dissociation of water above the limiting current density in ion-exchange membrane electrodialysis has been proposed. Generation rates of H+ and OH– ions in the dissociation of water, H2O [graphic omitted] H++ OH– are given as the difference between

Ultrafast Molecular Dissociation of Water in Ice

Physical Review Letters, 2004
Using x-ray emission and photoemission spectroscopies to measure the occupied valence levels in a thin crystalline ice film, we resolve the ionization-induced dissociation of water in ice on a femtosecond time scale. Isotope substitution confirms proton transfer during the core-hole lifetime in spite of the nonresonant excitation.

Collision-Induced Dissociation of Water into Ions

The Journal of Physical Chemistry B, 2005
A modification of the central force model (CFM) that describes the dissociation of water molecules into OH- and H+ ions is proposed for molecular dynamics simulations of energetic particle bombardment of water ice. The model keeps all the properties of the CFM but permits charge exchange between oxygen and hydrogen atoms when the water molecule starts ...

Dissociative model of water clusters

The Journal of Chemical Physics, 1999
A model of water is introduced that dissociates into either ionic or covalent molecular fragments. The model is based on a semiempirical calculation embedded in a molecular mechanics approach. It contains electronic degrees of freedom that allow the calculation of partial charges that vary smoothly from the bound state to the dissociated states.

Hot Water from Cold. The Dissociative Recombination of Water Cluster Ions

The Journal of Physical Chemistry A, 2010
Dissociative recombination of the Zundel cation D(5)O(2)(+) almost exclusively produces D + 2 D(2)O with a maximum kinetic energy release of 5.1 eV. An imaging technique is used to investigate the distribution of the available reaction energy among these products.

Dissociation of Water on MgO(100)

The Journal of Physical Chemistry B, 2002
The adsorption of water on well-ordered MgO(100) surfaces has been studied using metastable impact electron spectroscopy (MIES), ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy (UPS), and temperature-progra...

Dissociation pathways of protonated water clusters

SPIE Proceedings, 2003
Relative abundances of positively ionized water clusters formed in a low-pressure electrical discharge as function of reduced electric field were obtained by using drift cell and quadrupole mass spectrometer. It was noticed that some clusters say with n=4 were more abundant than others, at comparable drift conditions.

Chapter 8 Water Dissociation

2007
Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the water dissociation. Water dissociation reaction is related with the auto-catalytic nature of the functional groups in the membrane. The difference between water dissociation phenomenon of a cation exchange membrane and that of an anion exchange membrane is closely related with the catalytic nature.
