Dynamics of confined water molecules [PDF]
We present femtosecond midinfrared pump–probe measurements of the molecular motion and energy-transfer dynamics of a water molecule that is enclosed by acetone molecules. These confined water molecules show hydrogen-bond and orientational dynamics that are much slower than in bulk liquid water.

Molecular Basis of Water Activity in Glycerol–Water Mixtures
Water activity (Aw) is a reliable indication of the microbial growth, enzymatic activity, preservation, and quality of foods. However, a molecular basis of Aw is still under debate in multiple related disciplines.

Water at interface with proteins
Water is essential for the activity of proteins. However, the effect of the properties of water on the behavior of proteins is only partially understood.

Sustainable land management requires that water and matter (nutrients and base cations) are efficiently recycled within ecosystems so that irreversible losses of matter from topsoils are minimised. Matter losses are connected to water flow.

Water resources management in a homogenizing world: Averting the Growth and Underinvestment trajectory [PDF]
Biotic homogenization, a de facto symptom of a global biodiversity crisis, underscores the urgency of reforming water resources management to focus on the health and viability of ecosystems.

Karst water as the vital water supply source is generally suffered from NO3– contamination in intensive agricultural areas worldwide. Identifying NO3– sources and transformations is the key for understanding nitrogen pathways, and also for effectively ...

Curvature Dependence of Hydrophobic Hydration Dynamics
We investigate the curvature-dependence of water dynamics in the vicinity of hydrophobic spherical solutes using molecular dynamics simulations. For both, the lateral and perpendicular diffusivity as well as for H-bond kinetics of water in the first ...

Solvent Induced Proton Hopping at a Water-Oxide Interface [PDF]
Despite widespread interest, a detailed understanding of the dynamics of proton transfer at interfaces is lacking. Here we use ab initio molecular dynamics to unravel the connection between interfacial water structure and proton transfer for the widely ...

Water–Peptide Dynamics during Conformational Transitions [PDF]
Transitions between metastable conformations of a dipeptide are investigated using classical molecular dynamics simulation with explicit water molecules. The distribution of the surrounding water at different moments before the transitions and the dynamical correlations of water with the peptide's configurational motions indicate that the water ...
