This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Dynamics of simulated water under pressure
We present molecular dynamics simulations of the SPC/E model of water to probe the dynamic properties at temperatures from 350 K down to 190 K and pressures from 2.5GPa (25kbar) down to -300MPa (-3kbar).

Excess Electron Relaxation Dynamics at Water/Air Interfaces [PDF]
We have performed mixed quantum-classical molecular dynamics simulations of the relaxation of a ground state excess electron at interfaces of different phases of water with air.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

New experimental approaches enabling the continuous monitoring of gas species in hydrothermal fluids
Hot thermal fluids flow through the Earth's crust and carry valuable information about the deep subsurface. The monitoring of natural tracers transported in geothermal fluids, such as gases or ions, are relevant to better understand the geological ...

Recent achievements in ab initio modelling of liquid water [PDF]
The application of newly developed first-principle modeling techniques to liquid water deepens our understanding of the microscopic origins of its unusual macroscopic properties and behaviour.

The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...
