The primary problem with membrane distillation (MD) for concentrating hypersaline wastewaters is its severe membrane scaling induced by increasing salt concentration of wastewater. Herein, we developed a superhydrophobic and welded-pore polyimide fibrous

Doping MIL-101(Cr)@GO in polyamide nanocomposite membranes with improved water flux
, 2020Facile reverse osmosis membranes with different doping concentrations of metal organic framework MIL-101(Cr)@graphene oxide (GO) were synthesized for desalination by interfacial polymerization, and the MIL-101(Cr) polyhedral particles were encapsulated ...

Control of Water Flux in a Bioartificial Kidney
ASAIO Transactions, 1989UC-PK1 cells were grown to confluence on microporous microcellulose membranes in order to test the feasibility of using transmembrane pressure (TMP) for controlling connective water transport in a bioartificial kidney. TMP was applied on either the apical or basal aspect of the polarized cell layer, while the fluid compartments on both sides of the ...

Terrestrial water fluxes dominated by transpiration
Nature, 2013Renewable fresh water over continents has input from precipitation and losses to the atmosphere through evaporation and transpiration. Global-scale estimates of transpiration from climate models are poorly constrained owing to large uncertainties in stomatal conductance and the lack of catchment-scale measurements required for model calibration ...

Water flux in a hybrid poplar stand
Tree Physiology, 1994We studied water flux in a four-year-old stand of hybrid Populus during midsummer 1992. Study trees ranged in height from 11.0 to 15.1 m and in diameter from 8.3 to 15.1 cm. The large-leafed Populus hybrid was relatively poorly coupled to the atmosphere.

The hydrostatic (Lp) and osmotic (LPD) filtration coefficients and the efflux rates of tritiated water were measured in the giant axon of Loligo vulgaris. The Lp was 8 to 14 X 10(-8) cm/sec/cm H2O and the LPD was two orders of magnitude smaller (3 to 6 X 10(-10) cm/sec/cm H2O).
