Effects of hard water on hair

open access: yesInternational Journal of Trichology, 2013
Hardness of water is determined by the amount of salts (calcium carbonate [CaCO3] and magnesium sulphate [MgSO4]) present in water. The hardness of the water used for washing hair may cause fragility of hair. The objective of the following study is to compare the tensile strength and elasticity of hair treated in hard water and hair treated in distilled

Dynamic Precipitation during High‐Pressure Torsion of a Magnesium–Manganese Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An ultrafine‐grained alloy is produced by high‐pressure torsion of solutionized Mg–1.35 wt% Mn. Precipitation of nanometer‐scale Mn particles during deformation provides pinning sites. This prevents the formation of a bimodal grain structure and results in a finer grain size than for pure Mg.

Effects of CaCO3 liming on water quality and growth performance of fingerlings of Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus = Efeitos da calagem com CaCO3 na qualidade da água e desempenho produtivo de alevinos de tilápia do Nilo, Oreochromis niloticus

open access: yesActa Scientiarum: Animal Sciences, 2009
The present study was carried out for 6 week with Nile tilapia, Oreochomis niloticus, fingerlings (0.77 ± 0.04 g) to assess the effects of moderate CaCO3 liming on water pH, total alkalinity, calcium hardness, free CO2 and total ammonia, as well as on ...

Adjustment of Coatings Morphology and Particle Distribution of Layered Silicates by Freeze‐Drying for Improved Gas Barriers

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Freeze‐drying of layered silicate is the key to get coatings with superior gas barrier. Freeze‐drying of layered silicates modified with dodecylamine (DDA) is a highly effective technique for the preparation of barrier pigments that significantly mitigate the permeation of oxygen, water vapor, and hydrogen through polymer films containing these ...
