Water intakes of lactating women

The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 1985
Women are commonly advised to increase their water intake during lactation, even though empirical data describing fluid intakes of successfully lactating women is lacking. Water intake from solid food and beverage was determined from 135 food records completed by 26 lactating women who had fully breast-fed their infants for 3 to 4 mo.

Drug antagonism and water intake

Physiology & Behavior, 1970
Abstract Rats adapted to a 23 hr water deprivation schedule were given drugs and drug combinations to determine dose-effect relations and possible antagonistic and synergistic drug actions with respect to one hr water intake. D-amphetamine and chlorpromazine produced decreases in water intake as a function of dosage.

Water Intake of Normal Children

Science, 1963
Estimates of daily total fluid intake and of tap-water consumption of normal children were made in four dissimilar geographic areas in the United States. (Total fluid intake increased and, relatively speaking, tap-water consumption decreased, with age.) Of basic importance in fluoridation programs was the observation that even older children rarely ...

Naloxone persistently modifies water-intake

Pharmacology Biochemistry and Behavior, 1988
Rats, deprived of water for 19 hr, were given an opportunity to drink water for 30 min and for another 4.5 hr. Prior to drinking, rats were injected with saline or NX (2.5 mg/kg) to see if NX's effects persisted when given day after day. The findings confirmed that NX not only reduced intake but its effects showed no tolerance across consecutive ...

Daily water deprivation potentiates ethanol intake beyond a period of water intake

Alcohol, 1987
Rats were given a daily opportunity to drink sweetened ethanol solution or water after 22 hr of deprivation of water. Their intakes of the ethanol solution increased gradually across three weeks and then remained relatively stable. These procedures examined the effects of having an opportunity to drink water for 30 min, before the opportunity to drink ...

Water Works Intakes

Journal AWWA, 1940
WATER works practice the word "intake" usually means that portion of the water works system which conveys the water from the source of supply to a gate house, pumping station or other portion of the water works plant. There are a few water supplies taken from the shores of lakes or rivers by the excavation of a channel, such as at Ottawa, but in this ...

Water intake, pleasure and water temperature in humans

Physiology & Behavior, 1983
The influence of water temperature on intake and affective ratings was explored in human subjects. Dehydration whether by profuse sweating (body weight loss: 289 +/- 11 g, N = 20) or mountain climbing (body weight loss: 1660 +/- 58 g, N = 20) resulted in the same intake.

Inadequate water intake of brestfeeding women

Progress in Nutrition, 2016
Despite evidence of importance of water for the general population’ health, water intake estimatesin breastfeeding women are lacking. Therefore, this study aimed at estimating water intakes and identifying dietary water sources in a sample of Croatian breastfeeding women one month postpartum.

An Accidental Intake of Tritiated Water

American Industrial Hygiene Association Journal, 1971
Data on an accidental intake of tritium which resulted in about 400 mCi of tritium distributed throughout the body water of one man is presented. The urinary excretion and loss of tritium from blood were followed for a period of time which allowed a precise estimate of dose to blood and body tissues to be calculated.

Renin-dependent water intake in hypovolemia

Pflügers Archiv - European Journal of Physiology, 1988
The role of the renin-angiotensin system as a mediator of water intake, induced by hypovolemia after polyethylene glycol (PEG) injection, was investigated. Blockade of angiotensin I converting enzyme and of angiotensin receptors was used as a pharmacological tool. A significant reduction of water intake was observed when angiotensin I converting enzyme
