Water lubrication of PTFE composites

Industrial Lubrication and Tribology, 2015
Purpose– The paper aims to present results on the friction and the wear of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) and eight commercially available composites with PTFE matrix, for tests done on shoe/roller tribotester with water lubrication in open circuit. There are pointed out particular tribological processes within the superficial layers of the composites ...

Role of water in the lubrication of hydrogel

Wear, 2006
Abstract In previous reports, the frictional property of hydrogel was evaluated by using the pin-on-disk type of friction tester. As a result, the hydrogel showed the change in a friction coefficient depending on the speed. The friction property of hydrogel is similar to the Stribeck curve.

Lubrication of Water and Steam Turbines

1983
The steam turbine is used as the prime mover for driving equipment such as blowers, pumps and compressors, but its predominant use is to drive alternators and generators for the production of electricity.

Influence of Water on the Lubrication of Metals

Nature, 1947
Earlier work1 has shown that the simple physical adsorption theory of boundary lubrication is inadequate; fatty acids are not really effective in lubricating metals unless they are able to react chemically with the surface to form the metallic soap. Gregory's measurements have shown, for example, that platinum is not effectively lubricated by a dilute ...

Water-based lubricants

2012
In the chapter few examples of water-based lubricant systems of increasing complexity based on self-assembled surfactant layers are described. It is shown how the morphology of surfactant films, which is determined by the molecular structure of the surfactant, has important implications on the cohesion and lubricant properties are modified due to the ...

Water lubrication of phenolic bearings

Scientific Lubrication, 1949
PHENOLIC bearings have frequently been used P for roll mills, thrust collars and rings, lifter bearings, side bearings on brass mills, plate mills and sheet mills, etc. They have sometimes replaced lignum vitae for marine propellor shaft bearings. Their lubrication can be effectively accomplished with water which, obviously, is the best coolant.
