Microbiological indicators of water quality

open access: yes, 2021
The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends the determination of total coliform bacteria and E. Coli in water as the main bacteriological indicators characterizing the quality of drinking water. In a number of CIS countries until now, the main indicator standardized in drinking water is the determination of glucose-positive coliform bacteria and E ...

Nrf2 Drives Epigenetic Reprogramming and Acts as the Master Regulator of KLF4 Expression and Activity in Arsenic‐Induced Transformation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Nrf2 isn't just a protector—it's a driver of cancer stemness. The study uncovers how arsenic‐activated Nrf2 directly upregulates KLF4, a key pluripotency factor, fueling oncogenic reprogramming. Through enhancer activation and self‐reinforcing loop, Nrf2 and KLF4 co‐opt gene networks linked to epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition and tumor growth ...

Neutrophil Macrophage Crosstalk via Extracellular Vesicles Drives Reverse Migration in a Fully Human Model of Wound Healing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A novel microphysiological system that can mimic sterile or non‐sterile injury demonstrates that macrophage‐derived extracellular vesicles modulate neutrophil migratory responses to these different wound states. The model showed that resolution of inflammation through neutrophil reverse migration is driven by IL‐8 derived from extracellular vesicles ...

Abiotic Factors and Plant Communities Shape the Distribution of Soil Pathogenic Oomycetes in Chinese Grasslands

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The continental‐scale study reveals that soil phosphorus strongly predicts the richness of soil pathogenic oomycetes in Chinese grasslands, while precipitation and plant species richness drive their absolute abundance; modeling predicts ≈42% of grassland areas may face elevated oomycete disease risk under future climate scenarios, especially in typical

Microbiological water quality monitoring in a resource-limited urban area: a study in Cameroon, Africa

open access: yesJournal of Public Health in Africa, 2012
In resource-limited developing nations, such as Cameroon, the expense of modern water-quality monitoring techniques is prohibitive to frequent water testing, as is done in the developed world.

Fast pH‐Driven Solubilization Method of Realgar (As4S4) to Reduce the Toxicity of Arsenic [As(III)] for Medicinal Purposes

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Arsenic trioxide transformed acute promyelocytic leukemia therapy and shows promise against HIV. A new method to solubilize the mineral realgar produces different arsenic species depleting the main arsenic target, nuclear PML protein, and retaining effects on leukemic and HIV reservoir cells, while minimizing off‐target damage.
