The Characteristics of Methane Combustion Suppression by Water Mist and Its Engineering Applications

open access: yesEnergies, 2017
To safely mine coal, engineers must prevent gas combustion and explosions, as well as seek feasible and reasonable techniques to control for these types of incidents. This paper analyzes the causes and characteristics of methane combustion and explosions.

Millimeter Wave Scattering from Neutral and Charged Water Droplets

open access: yes, 2010
We investigated 94GHz millimeter wave (MMW) scattering from neutral and charged water mist produced in the laboratory with an ultrasonic atomizer. Diffusion charging of the mist was accomplished with a negative ion generator (NIG).

INCREASING EXTINGUISHING EFFECT OF WATER MIST BY ELEKTRIFICATION [PDF]

open access: yesCivil Engineering Journal, 2017
This paper describes extinguishing experiments to verify the possibility of increasing the fire-extinguishing efficiency of low-, medium- and high-pressure water mist by its charging by the electric field of high DC voltage.

Effect of ambient temperature on water absorption of coal dust with different metamorphic degrees under saturated water mist

open access: yesMeikuang Anquan, 2021
In order to study the influence of the ambient temperature on the coal dust absorption rate of the heading face under saturated water mist condition, a self-designed ultrasonic atomization moisture adsorption experiment system was used to create a ...

Drop Shaping by Laser-Pulse Impact [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We show how the deposition of laser energy induces propulsion and strong deformation of an absorbing liquid body. Combining high speed with stroboscopic imaging, we observe that a millimeter-sized dyed water drop hit by a millijoule nanosecond laser ...

Research on suppression and extinguishment of belt conveyor fire by water mist based on FDS

open access: yesMeikuang Anquan, 2023
For exploring the influence mechanism of fine water mist system parameters on extinguishing mine belt fires, FDS was used to study the cooling characteristics and the fire extinguishing effect of fine water mist under different parameters.

Heat transfer analysis of air-mist evaporative cooling in heat sink

open access: yesInternational Journal of Thermofluids, 2022
This paper investigates heat transfer enhancement of evaporative air-mist cooling in heat sinks. Heat transfer in heat sink is studied through the development of theoretical equations of mass, momentum, energy, and water droplets evaporation.

A Non‐Reciprocal Architected Porous Medium

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In several fluid flow, energy‐dumping, and energy‐harvesting applications, a dominant flow direction or dominant resistance direction is desirable. In this study, we propose a simple modular geometry that doubles flow resistance in one direction relative to the opposite direction, while maintaining laminar viscous flow.

Viral Infection‐Inspired Autonomous Detection of Fusion‐Competent Viruses for Screening and Environmental Surveillance

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Inspired by viral entry mechanisms, the FUSION assay enables autonomous detection of respiratory viruses via membrane fusion–triggered CRISPR‐Cas13a activation. VEACON selectively fuses with fusion‐competent viruses, triggering fluorescence within confined vesicles.
