Effects of Different Denaturants on the Properties of a Hot-Pressed Peanut Meal-Based Adhesive

open access: yesMolecules, 2022
Plant protein-based adhesives could fundamentally solve the problem of formaldehyde-based adhesive releasing formaldehyde, but enhancing bonding strength and water resistance is a necessary measure to realize practical applications.

Contextualizing Native Resistance: Precedents for the Movement Against the Dakota Access Pipeline [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
In 2016, news of the Standing Rock resistance against the Dakota Access Pipeline swept through the social media sphere. Although many young people had never seen anything like it, this article shows that the “water protectors” are part of a long ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

The mechanical resistance of saturated stones [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
This paper aims at investigating the effect of the presence of water on the mechanical resistance of stones. The presence of water, connected to the intrinsic properties of the stone (mineralogical composition, fabric, texture, etc.) and to the ...

An isoform of 14‐3‐3 protein regulates transbilayer lipid movement at the plasma membrane

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of 14‐3‐3ζ in CHO cells confers resistance to exogenous phosphatidylserine (PS) and impairs endocytosis‐independent inward flip‐flop of fluorescent PS at the plasma membrane. RNAi‐mediated knockdown reproduces this defect, while no additive effect is seen in ATP11C‐deficient cells.

Process description of SWQN : A simplified hydraulic model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
SWQN is a simplified hydraulic model for surface water systems which computes water levels and flows in a network of nodes labelled as ‘volumes’ and segments labelled as ‘connectors’.

A lichen protected by a super-hydrophobic and breathable structure [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
A species of lichen, Lecanora conizaeoides, is shown to be super-hydrophobic. It uses a combination of hydrophobic compounds and multi-layered roughness to shed water effectively.

AAA+ protein unfoldases—the Moirai of the proteome

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
AAA+ unfoldases are essential molecular motors that power protein degradation and disaggregation. This review integrates recent cryo‐electron microscopy (cryo‐EM) structures and single‐molecule biophysical data to reconcile competing models of substrate translocation.
