Compaction behaviour of clay [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
This paper presents an experimental study of the compaction behaviour of non-active clay. One-dimensional static compaction tests were carried out at high and medium water content with matric suction monitoring using Trento high-capacity tensiometers. At

Comparison of air entry values from soil water retention and volumetric shrinkage characteristic curves

open access: yesJapanese Geotechnical Society Special Publication, 2019
The soil water retention curve (SWRC) is the relationship between the volumetric water content and the matric suction of an unsaturated soil. One key parameter of the SWRC is the air-entry value (AEV), which defines the minimum matric suction at which air starts to enter the largest pores in the soil as it desaturates.

Tailoring water structure with high-tetrahedral-entropy for antifreezing electrolytes and energy storage at −80 °C

open access: yesNature Communications, 2023
One of unsolved puzzles about water lies in how ion-water interplay affects its freezing point. Here, we report the direct link between tetrahedral entropy and the freezing behavior of water in Zn^2+-based electrolytes by analyzing experimental spectra ...

Deposition and transport of functionalized carbon nanotubes in water-saturated sand columns [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Knowledge of the fate and transport of functionalized carbon nanotubes (CNTs) in porous media is crucial to understand their environmental impacts. In this study, laboratory column and modeling experiments were conducted to mechanistically compare the ...

Subsurface Water Retention a Technology for Increasing the Field Use Efficiency and Water Saving Values of Cucumber Plant

open access: yesJournal of Engineering, 2019
The technology of subsurface soil water retention (SWRT) uses a polyethylene ‎trough that is fixed under the root zone of the plant. It is a modern technology to increase the values of water ‎use efficiency, plant productivity and saving irrigation water by applying as little irrigation water ‎as possible.

Suppressed Water Reactivity by Zincophilic‐Hydrophobic Electrolyte Additive for Superior Aqueous Zn Metal Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, 2023
As one of the most promising anodes of aqueous batteries, Zn metal faces uncontrollable side reactions and deleterious dendrite growth, which drastically compromise its cycle life and Coulombic efficiency (CE).
