Monitoring semi‐aquatic mammals is essential for their conservation, but it is made difficult by their elusive lifestyle and generally low abundance. Abstract China's center of socioeconomic activities was in the North prior to the Tang dynasty but is in the South today. We demonstrate that Arab and Persian Muslim traders triggered that transition when they came to China in the late seventh century, by lifting maritime trade along the South Coast and re‐creating the South.

Field‐level crop choice responses to weather‐induced yield shocks in the US Corn Belt

Abstract As climate change increases the frequency and severity of extreme heat events, farmers are expected to face greater variability in crop yields. Using 10 million field‐level observations, this study examines how farmers in the US Corn Belt adjust corn–soybean rotation decisions in response to yield shocks largely driven by weather fluctuations.
