Laboratory studies of wave‐current interaction: Kinematics of the strong interaction

Journal of Geophysical Research: Oceans, 1989
Controlled laboratory experiments have been conducted to study the kinematics of wave‐current interactions. The results confirm the conservation of waves under the steady state condition. The data also show that the kinematic effect of the current on waves can be treated as a simple Doppler shift.

Wave-current interactions: experiment and modelling

2017
This research is a thorough investigation of the interactions between wind-generated ocean waves with currents. The physical aspects are analysed and discussed in laboratory and field conditions. The performance of widely used wave forecast models are tested in various situations, from local scales of tidal inlets to the large ocean basin of the ...

Non-Linear Wave Current Interactions

1993
This paper considers the description of a two dimensional wave train propagating on an arbitrary current. The bi-linear numerical model, first proposed by Dalrymple (1974), has been extended to incorporate a five layered description of the flow field.

Multigrid Model of Wave-Current Interaction

1993
The multigrid technique is used to solve a variant of the mild-slope equation which takes into account wave-current interaction. The different versions of wave-current interaction equations are first compared with each other and then the governing equation is recast into a form suitable for treatment by the multigrid technique.

1DV Simulation of Wave Current Interaction

Coastal Engineering 2000, 2001
This paper presents the contents as well as examples of the hydrodynamic part of our time and depth-dependent 1DV solver using a Poisson solver for pressure for explicitly simulating various wave-current-turbulence interactions of periodic nonbreaking surface waves propagating on horizontally uniform currents and horizontal beds. The accompanying paper

Longshore Currents with Wave Current Interaction

Journal of the Waterway, Port, Coastal and Ocean Division, 1980
This note is intended to examine analytically the effects of larger angles of wave incidence and the refraction of the waves by the longshore current on planar beaches for the case of no lateral mixing.

Wave-current interaction

1989
This report attempts to summarize the present knowledge on the modelling of the interaction of waves and current, with emphasis on the near-surface zone.

Wave-current interactions in coastal areas [PDF]

open access: possible, 2013
Many coastal areas are threatened by flooding due to an increasing sea level. A deep understanding of the physical processes in the ocean and especially in these coastal areas is required to evaluate strategies to confront these problems. Wave-current interactions describe processes and the exchange of energy between waves and currents.
