Travelling Breaking Waves

open access: yesBulletin of the South Ural State University. Series "Mathematical Modelling, Programming and Computer Software", 2023
Summary: We study a mathematical model of coastal waves in the shallow water approximation. The model contains two empirical parameters. The first one controls turbulent dissipation. The second one is responsible for the turbulent viscosity and is determined by the turbulent Reynolds number. We study travelling waves solutions to this model.

The Mono/Bistatic SAR Imaging Simulation of Sea Surface with Breaking Waves Based on a Refined Facet Scattering Field Model

open access: yesInternational Journal of Antennas and Propagation, 2021
In order to analyze the scattering characteristics of sea surface under high sea state, a complete scattering model of sea surface considering breaking wave is established in this study based on the refined facet scattering field model (RFSFM) and the ...

Numerical Investigation of Breaking Focused Waves and Forces on Coastal Deck Structure with Girders

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2022
In the present study, breaking focused wave groups were simulated using open-source Computational Fluid Dynamics model REEF3D in order to investigate the breaking wave impact on scaled (1:10) two-dimensional coastal deck structure with girder. The effect

Wave Spectrum of Breaking Waves

open access: yesCoastal Engineering 1976, 1976
By wave breaking, an incident monocromatic wave is transformed to a wave composed of its harmonic frequency waves inside a surf zone. Based on a dimensional consideration, the "-1 power law ", the "-2 power law ", the "-2/3 power law " and the "-1/2 power law " on the wave height spectrum ,H(f), are derived as sorts of equilibrium spectra.

Suppression of Wind Ripples and Microwave Backscattering Due to Turbulence Generated by Breaking Surface Waves

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2020
The role of wave breaking in microwave backscattering from the sea surface is a problem of great importance for the development of theories and methods on ocean remote sensing, in particular for oil spill remote sensing.

An Experimental Study on Measuring Breaking-Wave Bubbles with LiDAR Remote Sensing

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2022
Laboratory experiments were conducted to evaluate the feasibility of profiling and characterizing subsurface bubble plumes following a breaking wave event from an above-water Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) system.

Kinematics of Breaking Waves

open access: yesCoastal Engineering 1976, 1976
The sight and sound of breaking waves and surf is so familiar and enjoyable that we tend to forget how little we really understand about them. Why is it, that compared to other branches of wave studies our knowledge of breaking waves is so empirical and inexact?

On Doppler Shifts of Breaking Waves [PDF]

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2023
Field-tower-based observations were used to estimate the Doppler velocity of deep water plunging breaking waves. About 1000 breaking wave events observed by a synchronized video camera and dual-polarization Doppler continuous-wave Ka-band radar at incidence angles varying from 25 to 55 degrees and various azimuths were analyzed using computer vision ...

Breaking wave solutions of a short wave model

open access: yesResults in Physics, 2019
In this paper, the breaking wave solutions of a short wave model is investigated by employing the bifurcation method of dynamical systems. All possible explicit breaking kink wave solutions and compacton solutions are obtained. Dynamical analysis reveals
