Self-similar wave breaking in dispersive Korteweg-de Vries hydrodynamics

open access: yes, 2018
We discuss the problem of breaking of a nonlinear wave in the process of its propagation into a medium at rest. It is supposed that the profile of the wave is described at the breaking moment by the function $(-x)^{1/n}$ ($x0$, negative pulse) of the ...

Non-hydrostatic effects on mountain wave breaking in directional shear flows [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Mountain waves excited by narrow 3D orography are investigated using idealized numerical simulations of atmospheric flows with directional wind shear. The stability of these waves is compared with the stability of hydrostatic mountain waves. The focus is

Encyclopedia of 2D β′‐In2Se3 Growth Using Chemical Vapor Deposition: The Effects of Synthesis Parameters Onto Material Quality

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A distinct semi‐confined inner‐tube chemical vapor deposition geometry enables reproducible, large‐area growth of phase‐pure 2D β′‐In2Se3 from InI + Se precursors. Engineering local vapor transport and optimizing precursor delivery and temperature–time conditions yield uniform continuous films.

Analysis of Tidal Cycle Wave Breaking Distribution Characteristics on a Low-Tide Terrace Beach Using Video Imagery Segmentation

open access: yesRemote Sensing
Wave breaking is a fundamental process in ocean energy dissipation and plays a crucial role in the exchange between ocean and nearshore sediments. Foam, the primary visible feature of wave breaking areas, serves as a direct indicator of wave breaking ...

Tropical Cyclone Modeling With the Inclusion of Wave‐Coupled Processes: Sea Spray and Wave Turbulence

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2023
Waves critically modulate the air‐sea fluxes, and upper‐ocean thermodynamics in a Tropical Cyclone (TC) system. This study improves the modeling of TC intensification by incorporating non‐breaking wave‐induced turbulence and sea spray from breaking waves

Ground state on the dumbbell graph [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
We consider standing waves in the focusing nonlinear Schr\"odinger (NLS) equation on a dumbbell graph (two rings attached to a central line segment subject to the Kirchhoff boundary conditions at the junctions).

Dual‐Mode Film Based on Highly Scattering Nanofibers and Upcycled Chips‐Bags for Year‐Round Thermal Management

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Intelligent radiative cooling devices, adaptable to various weather conditions, have the potential for year‐round energy savings. This study introduces a sustainable dual‐mode film made from polycaprolactone nanofibers and upcycled chip bags for effective thermal management.

Numerical Simulation of Nonlinear Wave Propagation from Deep to Shallow Water

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2023
Herein, a numerical model is proposed to simulate the nonlinear wave propagation from deep to shallow water and wave breaking phenomena. In the numerical model, the governing equations selected, in which the momentum equations were added to the eddy ...

On the dispersionless Kadomtsev-Petviashvili equation with arbitrary nonlinearity and dimensionality: exact solutions, longtime asymptotics of the Cauchy problem, wave breaking and discontinuous shocks

open access: yes, 2015
We study the generalization of the dispersionless Kadomtsev - Petviashvili (dKP) equation in n+1 dimensions and with nonlinearity of degree m+1, a model equation describing the propagation of weakly nonlinear, quasi one dimensional waves in the absence ...

Laser‐Induced Graphene from Waste Almond Shells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Almond shells, an abundant agricultural by‐product, are repurposed to create a fully bioderived almond shell/chitosan composite (ASC) degradable in soil. ASC is converted into laser‐induced graphene (LIG) by laser scribing and proposed as a substrate for transient electronics.
