Ion wave breaking acceleration

open access: yesPhysical Review Accelerators and Beams, 2016
Laser driven ion wave breaking acceleration (IWBA) in plasma wakefields is investigated by means of a one-dimensional (1D) model and 1D/3D particle-in-cell (PIC) simulations.

Competition of Fermi surface symmetry breaking and superconductivity

open access: yes, 2007
We analyze a mean-field model of electrons on a square lattice with two types of interaction: forward scattering favoring a d-wave Pomeranchuk instability and a BCS pairing interaction driving d-wave superconductivity. Tuning the interaction parameters a

Gravity wave turbulence in a laboratory flume [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We present an experimental study of the statistics of surface gravity wave turbulence in a flume of a horizontal size 12×6  m. For a wide range of amplitudes the wave energy spectrum was found to scale as Eω∼ω-ν in a frequency range of up to one decade ...

Magnetic Control of Chiral Hybridized Phonon Magnetic Moments in Ferrimagnets Fe2‐xZnxMo3O8

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Helicity‐resolved magneto‐Raman spectroscopy reveals magnetic control of chiral phonon magnetic moments in polar ferrimagnet (ZnxFe2−xMo3O₈). Large spontaneous zero‐field phonon splittings, selective phonon–magnon coupling, and asymmetric Zeeman responses demonstrate that phonon chirality is governed by magnon‐phonon coupling and magnetization.

Growth Rate and Energy Dissipation in Wind‐Forced Breaking Waves

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters
We investigate the energy growth and dissipation of wind‐forced breaking waves at high wind speed using direct numerical simulations of the coupled air–water Navier–Stokes equations.

Wave-Breaking Criterion for the Generalized Weakly Dissipative Periodic Two-Component Hunter-Saxton System

open access: yesJournal of Applied Mathematics, 2013
This paper studies the wave-breaking criterion for the generalized weakly dissipative two-component Hunter-Saxton system in the periodic setting. We get local well-posedness for the generalized weakly dissipative two-component Hunter-Saxton system.

Note on estimating bed shear stress caused by breaking random waves

open access: yesOceanologia, 2021
This note presents a method of how the bed shear stress caused by breaking random waves on slopes can be estimated. This is obtained by adopting the Sumer et al. (2013) bed shear stress formula due to spilling and plunging breaking waves on hydraulically

On the breaking of a plasma wave in a thermal plasma: I. The structure of the density singularity

open access: yes, 2012
The structure of the singularity that is formed in a relativistically large amplitude plasma wave close to the wavebreaking limit is found by using a simple waterbag electron distribution function.

Cool Kitchen: Processing Starch and Eggshell Powder into Sustainable Coatings for Passive Daytime Cooling

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A food‐grade cooling composite made from starch and recycled eggshell powder offers a scalable, ultra‐low‐cost solution for passive daytime radiative cooling. Easily prepared using basic kitchen tools, this material empowers communities, even in areas with limited infrastructure, to stay cooler during worsening summer heat waves.

A SHORELINE MODEL FOR BREAKING WAVES [PDF]

open access: yesCoastal Engineering Proceedings, 2011
In order to simulate the wave motion and, in turn, the flow, within the nearshore region, in the last decades the derivation and the application of depth-integrated type of models have been widely investigated and developed. However, in such models, the problems of facing wave breaking and the moving shoreline are not trivial and therefore several ...
