On the self-interference in electron scattering: Copenhagen, Bohmian and geometrical interpretations of quantum mechanics

open access: yes, 2018
Self-interference embodies the essence of the particle-wave interpretation of quantum mechanics (QM). According to the Copenhagen particle-wave interpretation of QM, self-interference by a double slit requires a large transverse coherence of the incident

Solid‐State Diffusion and Intermetallic Phase Formation in Roll‐Bonded Mg–Zn Composites With Kirigami‐Patterned Inlay

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mg–Zn composites with a thickness of 0.21 mm were fabricated using roll bonding of a kirigami‐patterned Mg alloy inlay within a Zn matrix. Thermal activation following this process led to the formation of tailored intermetallic structures, which provided the composite with enhanced flexural strength.

Wave localization as a manifestation of ray chaos in underwater acoustics

open access: yes, 2007
Wave chaos is demonstrated by studying a wave propagation in a periodically corrugated wave-guide. In the limit of a short wave approximation (SWA) the underlying description is related to the chaotic ray dynamics.

Additive Manufacturing of Continuous Fibre Reinforced Composites: Process, Characterisation, Modelling, and Sustainability

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Additive manufacturing provides precise control over the placement of continuous fibres within polymer matrices, enabling customised mechanical performance in composite components. This article explores processing strategies, mechanical testing, and modelling approaches for additive manufactured continuous fibre‐reinforced composites.

Bound states in the continuum and near-exceptional points in a reflection-based cavity-magnonic system

open access: yesnpj Spintronics
Non-Hermitian spectral singularities including bound states in the continuum (BICs) and exceptional points (EPs) enable powerful forms of wave control but remain challenging to implement in planar, passive magnonic systems.

Enhanced Strength and Corrosion Resistance of Ti‐13Nb‐12Ta‐10Zr‐4Sn Alloy by Aging Treatment

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work systematically investigates the effect of aging treatment on mechanical properties and corrosion behavior of vacuum arc‐melted Ti‐13Nb‐12Ta‐10Zr‐4Sn alloy. Owing to the increased α″ martensite, strength and corrosion resistance were significantly enhanced by aging treatment.

Insights into the underlying reaction kinetics of gasoline–ethanol interactions and their effects on the auto-ignition characteristics of gasoline/ethanol blends

open access: yesApplications in Energy and Combustion Science
Ethanol-blended gasolines show enhanced anti-knock behavior in spark-ignition engines. Fundamental experimental investigations on their auto-ignition behavior are however scarce in the literature.

Accordion-like metamaterials with tunable ultra-wide low-frequency band gaps

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2018
Composite materials with engineered band gaps are promising solutions for wave control and vibration mitigation at various frequency scales. Despite recent advances in the design of phononic crystals and acoustic metamaterials, the generation of wide low-

Phase transition and gravitational wave phenomenology of scalar conformal extensions of the Standard Model

open access: yes, 2017
Thermal corrections in classically conformal models typically induce a strong first-order electroweak phase transition, thereby resulting in a stochastic gravitational wave background that could be detectable at gravitational wave observatories.

Copper Nanocrystallization in Anodic Oxide Films of Ti–Cu‐Based Bulk Metallic Glass and Its Effect on the Corrosion Resistance and Cytocompatibility

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Viktoriia Shtefan, Thorgund Nemec, Ute Hempel, Annett Gebert and coworkers demonstrate that anodic treatment of Ti–Cu‐based metallic glass in a nontoxic pyrophosphate electrolyte forms a protective bilayered Ti/Zr‐oxide film enriched with Cu nanocrystals.
