Pulmonary arterial wave intensity analysis in health and disease.
2023Wave intensity analysis (WIA) is a time-domain technique utilising high fidelity pressure and velocity measurements to determine the intensity, direction, type and timing of waves that may simultaneously exist. Travelling wavefronts represent elemental units of energy transmitted within and between the heart and blood vessels.

Forward and backward waves in the arterial system: impedance or wave intensity analysis?
Medical & Biological Engineering & Computing, 2009Both impedance analysis and wave intensity analysis are used to separate measured pressure and flow waveforms into their forward and backward components. The separation is sensitive to the characteristic impedance or wave speed determined from the data. In all other aspects, the results are identical.

Imaging-Based Wave Intensity Analysis: Applications in Congenital Heart Disease
Volume 1A: Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms; Active and Reactive Soft Matter; Atherosclerosis; BioFluid Mechanics; Education; Biotransport Phenomena; Bone, Joint and Spine Mechanics; Brain Injury; Cardiac Mechanics; Cardiovascular Devices, Fluids and Imaging; Cartilage and Disc Mechanics; Cell and Tissue Engineering; Cerebral Aneurysms; Computational Biofluid Dynamics; Device Design, Human Dynamics, and Rehabilitation; Drug Delivery and Disease Treatment; Engineered Cellular Environments, 2013Wave intensity analysis is a hemodynamic index evaluating the working condition of the heart in relation to the rest of the vasculature [1]. As such it carries valuable mechanistic information on ventriculo-arterial (VA) coupling. Its applications have ranged from studies of cardiac assist devices to fetal studies.

Simulation and Wave Intensity Analysis of Intra-aortic Counterpulsation
2015This work aims at developing a system dynamic model that can simulate various hemodynamic and wave characteristics associated with the counter-pulsation circulation support. A novel hybrid circulation model consisting of a one-dimensional (1-D) flow model and a lumped parameter Windkessel model was constructed.

Effect of Warm-Up Exercise Studied with Wave Intensity Analysis
2011The effect of warm-up on myocardial perfusion in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) is not well understood. Coronary wave intensity reflects the effects of cardiac contraction and relaxation on coronary blood flow dynamics. It can distinguish between left ventricular (forward, FW) and microcirculatory (backward, BW) originating contributions ...
