Long Wave Run-Up Resonance in a Multi-Reflection System

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
Wave reflection and wave trapping can lead to long wave run-up resonance. After reviewing the theory of run-up resonance in the framework of the linear shallow water equations, we perform numerical simulations of periodic waves incident on a linearly ...

Numerical and experimental study on tsunami run-up and inundation influenced by macro roughness elements [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
This research study considers long wave run-up experimentally and numerically. At first, an alternative methodology in long wave physical modeling is presented by means of a set of pipe pumps forcing the inflow of a controlled volume of water into a wave

BEM-numerics and KdV-model analysis for solitary wave split-up [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
In this paper we consider travelling surface waves on a layer of water of decreasing depth. A numerical scheme based on the boundary element method is used to present calculations for the run-up of a solitary wave. The numerical results are compared with

Nonlinear deformation and run-up of single tsunami waves of positive polarity: numerical simulations and analytical predictions [PDF]

open access: yesNatural Hazards and Earth System Sciences, 2019
The estimate of an individual wave run-up is especially important for tsunami warning and risk assessment, as it allows for evaluating the inundation area. Here, as a model of tsunamis, we use the long single wave of positive polarity. The period of such

Molecular characterisation of human penile carcinoma and generation of paired epithelial primary cell lines

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Generation of two normal and tumour (cancerous) paired human cell lines using an established tissue culture technique and their characterisation is described. Cell lines were characterised at cellular, protein, chromosome and gene expression levels and for HPV status.

Predicting wave run-up on vertical columns based on thermal stereography measurements

open access: yesApplied Ocean Research
Accurate estimation of wave run-up is crucial for the design and safety of marine structures. To facilitate more precise and convenient predictions of wave run-up on vertical columns, including circular and square columns, many empirical formulas have ...

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

An experimental study on wave run-ups of fixed four-rounded-square-column array in focused waves

open access: yesJournal of Ocean Engineering and Science
The wave run-up along the column surface is one of the focal issues of research in ocean engineering. This experimental study aimed to reveal the wave run-up characteristics of a fixed four-square-column array with rounded corners under focused waves by ...

Wave run-up prediction and observation in a micro-tidal beach [PDF]

open access: yesNatural Hazards and Earth System Sciences, 2018
Extreme weather events bear a significant impact on coastal human activities and on the related economy. Forecasting and hindcasting the action of sea storms on piers, coastal structures and beaches is an important tool to mitigate their effects.

Laboratory design-studies of the effect of waves on a proposed island site for a combined nuclear power and desalting plant [PDF]

open access: yes, 1966
There were four major objectives to this investigation: 1) the determination of the degree of stability of the island face when constructed of armor units of various weights; 2) the run-up for a two-dimensional wave system impinging on the island face; 3)
