Current Status and Challenges in Data Collection for Aerospace Coatings Deposited by Plasma Spraying

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An innovative approach has been integrated into the GRENAT project to optimize plasma spraying and coating performance. Raw materials are accelerated and melted in the plasma generated by torches, creating coatings. Monitoring sensors collect process data which are combined with ex situ characterization data.

Wave Run-Up at Sea Dikes under Oblique Wave Approach

open access: yesCoastal Engineering 1982, 1982
Besides wave impact forces, erosion of the inner side of a sea dike is a serious cause of destruction. Therefore, wave run-up and overtopping effects have to be considered with respect to the safety of a dike. Strong relations were found between both these influences (TAUTENHAIN et.al., 1980, 1981, 1982), based on experiments in a wave flume and using ...

Ontology‐Aligned Structuring and Reuse of Multimodal Materials Data and Workflows Toward Automatic Reproduction

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Reproduction of stacking fault energy calculations from literature with a semi‐automated large language model‐assisted extraction procedure: extraction of simulation protocol, atomistic structures, computational parameters, and reported results, ontology alignment, knowledge graph construction and, finally, recomputation forvalidation.

Wave run-up on embayed beaches. Study case: Itapocorói Bay, Southern Brazil

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Oceanography
This paper presents a new approach for estimating run-up on embayed beaches based on a study of the microtidal coast of Itapocorói Bay, Southern Brazil using the surf similarity parameter and wave height at break location.

Precipitation Simulations of the O‐Phase in Ti2AlNb Alloys Processed by Laser Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Simulated and experimental evolution of the O‐phase volume fraction during postprocessing of a Ti‐21Al‐25Nb (at.%) alloy processed by laser powder bed fusion. With results of sensitivity to input parameters from a thorough and quantified analysis, the interfacial energy matrix/precipitate is the most relevant input parameter for the simulation of the O‐

Coastal dune erosion under the influence of the Marie and Nadine storms in January 2022 on the Southern Baltic Sea coast

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science
This paper examines the conditions leading to development and the course of the double storm surge event associated with cyclones Marie and Nadine in January 2022. The study also analyses the resulting changes of the dune coast following both surges. The

Modeling Dislocation Cutting of γ′ Precipitates in Ni‐Base Superalloys: Linking Atomistic and Dislocation Dynamics Simulations

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Dislocation cutting of γ′ precipitates in Ni‐based superalloys is investigated by linking atomistic simulations with discrete dislocation dynamics. The critical cutting stress is shown to be governed by the antiphase boundary energy, while line tension effects promote edge‐preferred cutting.

Feasibility of Nitrogen as a Carrier Gas for Inconel Cold Spray in Hydropower Application

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
N2, despite being nearly two orders of magnitude cheaper than He, is a feasible carrier gas for cold spray Inconel coatings in hydropower repair applications when higher gas temperature and pressure are used. Reducing powder size significantly improved cavitation resistance, while the addition of fine chromium carbide particles further enhanced erosion

Modelling of wave run–up on a macrotidal beach for assessing coastal flooding

open access: yesResults in Engineering
This work examines the impact of coastal storms on a macrotidal beach at Normandy (France), the beach of Villers-sur-Mer, with the aim of assessing coastal flooding. Extreme wave heights and water levels of four typical storms are simulated using the non-

Microstructure, Thermal Transport, and Dry‐Sliding Tribology of Powder‐Metallurgy Al7075 Composites Reinforced With Sol–Gel‐Derived ZnO–rGO Hybrid Nanoparticles

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Sol–gel‐derived ZnO–rGO hybrid nanoparticles enable Al7075 powder‐metallurgy composites to achieve concurrent gains in hardness and thermal conductivity while markedly lowering friction and wear. The hybrid architecture couples ZnO‐based load support with rGO‐assisted lamellar sliding and heat spreading, revealing a promising route toward lightweight ...
