Test of the Practicality and Feasibility of EDoF-Empowered Image Sensors for Long-Range Biometrics

open access: yesSensors, 2016
For many practical applications of image sensors, how to extend the depth-of-field (DoF) is an important research topic; if successfully implemented, it could be beneficial in various applications, from photography to biometrics. In this work, we want to

Terahertz wavefront engineering using a hard-coded metasurface

open access: yesOptical and Quantum Electronics, 2023
During the past few years, coding metamaterials (MM) drew significant attention, where the far-field scattering/transmission pattern of the electromagnetic wave (particularly in the THz regime) can be encoded into a single or few-bit digitized phase-response of the metasurface, thereby enabling a full digital control.

GLA-ResUNet: A global-local attention framework for decoding in wavefront coding imaging system [PDF]

open access: yesAIP Advances
Wavefront coding technology disperses incident laser energy by employing a pupil-phase mask, effectively reducing the energy density on the detector target and enhancing the camera’s anti-laser capability.

Extended Depth-of-Field Imaging Using Multi-Scale Convolutional Neural Network Wavefront Coding

open access: yes, 2023
Wavefront encoding (WFC) is a depth-of-field (DOF) extension technology that combines optical encoding and digital decoding. The system extends DOF at the expense of intermediate image quality and then decodes it through an image restoration algorithm to

Decomposition of the optical transfer function: wavefront coding imaging systems

open access: yes, 2005
We describe the mapping of the optical transfer function (OTF) of an incoherent imaging system into a geometrical representation. We show that for defocused traditional and wavefront-coded systems the OTF can be represented as a generalized Cornu spiral.
