Adaptive Hydrogels With Spatiotemporal Stiffening Using pH‐Modulating Enzymes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The chemomechanical coupling in an adaptive hydrogel is studied to further the development of adaptive hydrogels. This coupling is achieved by embedding a pH‐modulating enzyme in a pH‐responsive hydrogel. The enzymatic reaction can be triggered locally, which generates a pH‐decreasing wave throughout the system, increasing the crosslinking density and ...

Wavefront Prediction for Adaptive Optics Without Wavefront Sensing Based on EfficientNetV2-S

open access: yesPhotonics
Adaptive optics (AO) aims to counteract wavefront distortions caused by atmospheric turbulence and inherent system errors. Aberration recovery accuracy and computational speed play crucial roles in its correction capability. To address the issues of slow

Structure Formation in Butterfly Scales: Interplay of Genetic Control, Mechanical Instabilities, and Dynamic Material Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Butterfly wing scales are intricate cuticular functional nanosctructures. This perspective suggests that spatially varying material properties, cytoskeletal constraints, and growth‐driven mechanical instabilities shape the resulting nanoscale architectures created from single cells.

Transducers Across Scales and Frequencies: A System‐Level Framework for Multiphysics Integration and Co‐Design

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Transducers convert physical signals into electrical and optical representations, yet each mechanism is bounded by intrinsic trade‐offs across bandwidth, sensitivity, speed, and energy. This review maps transduction mechanisms across physical scale and frequency, showing how heterogeneous integration and multiphysics co‐design transform isolated ...

Study on the Difference of Wavefront Distortion on Beams Caused by Wavelength Differences in Weak Turbulence Region

open access: yesPhotonics, 2023
In dual-wavelength free-space optical communication systems, the wavefront distortion differences caused by the wavelength difference of the signal and beacon lights cannot be completely corrected.

Mapping of Physiological Signals From Wireless Battery‐Free Implants With Plane‐Wave Ultrasound Imaging

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Combined approach of electromagnetic (Power) and ultrasound (data harvesting) waves is proposed to address the miniaturized ultrasonic implants. Electromagnetic waves trigger the piezoelectric element to generate the acoustic pulse which is modulated by the variations in the sensor's impedance.

X-Ray Single-Grating Interferometry for Wavefront Measurement and Correction of Hard X-Ray Nanofocusing Mirrors

open access: yesSensors, 2020
X-ray single-grating interferometry was applied to conduct accurate wavefront corrections for hard X-ray nanofocusing mirrors. Systematic errors in the interferometer, originating from a grating, a detector, and alignment errors of the components, were ...

Stochastic Optimization for Adaptive Real-Time Wavefront Correction

open access: yesNumerical Algorithms, 2003
We have investigated the performance of an adaptive optics system subjected to changing atmospheric conditions, under the guidance of the ALOPEX stochastic optimization. Atmospheric distortions are smoothed out by means of a deformable mirror, the shape of which can be altered in order to follow the rapidly changing atmospheric phase fluctuations. In a

Photonics of Topological Magnetic Textures

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
Localized noncollinear magetic textures imprint their geometry and topology onto traversing photonic fields endowing them with orbital angular‐momentum, chirality, and magnetoelectric densities. Abstract Topological textures in magnetically ordered materials are an important case studies for fundamental research with promising applications in data ...
