The Deformable Mirror Demonstration Mission (DeMi) CubeSat: optomechanical design validation and laboratory calibration

open access: yes, 2018
Coronagraphs on future space telescopes will require precise wavefront correction to detect Earth-like exoplanets near their host stars. High-actuator count microelectromechanical system (MEMS) deformable mirrors provide wavefront control with low size ...

On-sky demonstration of low-order wavefront sensing and control with focal plane phase mask coronagraphs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The ability to characterize exoplanets by spectroscopy of their atmospheres requires direct imaging techniques to isolate planet signal from the bright stellar glare.

Cryogenic wavefront correction using membrane deformable mirrors

open access: yesOptics Express, 2001
Micro-machined membrane deformable mirrors (MMDMs) are being evaluated for their suitability as wavefront correctors at cryogenic temperatures. Presented here are experimental results for the change in the initial mirror figure of 37-channel MMDMs from OKO Technologies upon cooling to T=78K. The changes in the influence functions are also explored.

Performance Comparison of Wavefront-Sensorless Adaptive Optics Systems by Using of the Focal Plane

open access: yesInternational Journal of Optics, 2015
The correction capability and the convergence speed of the wavefront-sensorless adaptive optics (AO) system are compared based on two different system control algorithms, which both use the information of focal plane.

Laser Tomography Adaptive Optics (LTAO): A performance study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We present an analytical derivation of the on-axis performance of Adaptive Optics systems using a given number of guide stars of arbitrary altitude, distributed at arbitrary angular positions in the sky.

Identification and adaptive control of a high-contrast focal plane wavefront correction system

open access: yes, 2018
All coronagraphic instruments for exoplanet high-contrast imaging need wavefront correction systems to reject optical aberrations and create sufficiently dark holes.

An All‐Optical Driven Bio‐Photovoltaic Interface for Active Control of Live Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Bio‐photovoltaic Interface (BIO‐PV‐I) for live cell manipulation is presented. BIO‐PV‐I can be activated non‐invasively and remotely to control the spatial motility, adhesion, and morphology of cells adhering to it. BIO‐PV‐I uses a patterned light‐induced electric potential in iron‐doped lithium niobate crystals whose light‐driven and reversible nature,

Atmospheric Turbulence Aberration Correction Based on Deep Learning Wavefront Sensing

open access: yesSensors, 2023
In this paper, research was conducted on Deep Learning Wavefront Sensing (DLWS) neural networks using simulated atmospheric turbulence datasets, and a novel DLWS was proposed based on attention mechanisms and Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs).

Imaging of Biphoton States: Fundamentals and Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Quantum states of two photons exhibit a rich polarization and spatial structure, which provides a fundamental resource of strongly correlated and entangled states. This review analyzes the physics of these intriguing properties and explores the various techniques and technologies available to measure them, including the state of the art of their ...

Focal-plane wavefront sensing with high-order adaptive optics systems

open access: yes, 2014
We investigate methods to calibrate the non-common path aberrations at an adaptive optics system having a wavefront-correcting device working at an extremely high resolution (larger than 150x150).
