The waveguide invariant for a Pekeris waveguide

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2021
A closed-form waveguide invariant β for a Pekeris waveguide is derived. It is based on the modal Wentzel-Kramers-Brillouin (WKB) dispersion equation and implicit differentiation, in conjunction with the concept of the “effective boundary depth,” ΔH(θ), where θ is the propagation angle.

Grating assisted waveguide-to-waveguide couplers [PDF]

open access: possibleIEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 1998
A new radiation-type waveguide-to-waveguide coupler is proposed. The coupling is realized through gratings embedded on the dielectric waveguides involved. Compared to the conventional hybrid-mode coupler, this type of coupler has advantages in that the two waveguides can be quite dissimilar as well as being separated by large distances.

A Waveguide to Unenclosed Coplanar Waveguide Transition

IEEE Transactions on Microwave Theory and Techniques, 2010
A transition from rectangular waveguide to unenclosed coplanar waveguide (CPW) is designed and tested at W -band. Full-wave finite-element analysis is applied to the design and optimization trends are shown for the critical parameters. A stepped-impedance filter suppresses a parasitic mode, which is generated as the circuit emerges from the waveguide ...

Dielectric Waveguides and Waveguide Devices for Microwave Applications

4th European Microwave Conference, 1974, 1974
A survey on the state of the art in Dielectric Waveguide (DW), stressing in particular the practical microwave applications, is given. The principles for designing DWs, fixing and joining devices, launchers, various multiport networks etc. are founded. A simple theory to calculate parameters of multiport networks with distributed coupling is developped.

Subwavelength robust waveguiding with chiral metamaterial waveguides

2019 URSI International Symposium on Electromagnetic Theory (EMTS), 2019
In this work, we design and experimentally demonstrate in the microwave range a robust metamaterial waveguide, which is formed at the boundary between two locally resonant chiral metamaterials with opposite chirality. We show that the interface states at such boundary are inherently robust to disorder in both the position and resonance frequency of ...

Periodic Waveguides and MQW Waveguide

2015
In research field of optics, diffraction gratings are widely investigated and applied; on the other hand, periodic metal waveguide is familiar to those worked with microwave waveguide. The early studies on periodic waveguide have a profound impact on the development of the waveguide optics.

Photorefractive waveguides

2020
In integrated optics, optical waveguides are fundamental elements for the development of integrated devices, including light sources, modulators, detectors, optical pathways, receivers and switches. For the fabrication of optical integrated waveguide components, grating couplers or other complex integrated structures realized on planar optical ...

Waveguides and Resonators

2004
Much of the discussion in the previous three chapters centered around lossless transmission lines. For these lines, the various relations were independent of conductivity of the materials involved. In fact, even for a distortionless transmission line, although an attenuation constant was present, all other basic properties of the line were independent ...

Ion implanted waveguides and waveguide lasers

Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section B: Beam Interactions with Materials and Atoms, 1992
Abstract Ion implantation is an accurate method for modifying the refractive index of surfaces of insulators to form optical waveguides and waveguide lasers. Alternative approaches are to directly define the waveguide region by implanting chemical dopants to control the refractive index and the lasing transitions or to use ion beam induced damage ...
