Nonlinear self-flipping of polarization states in asymmetric waveguides
Waveguides of subwavelength dimensions with asymmetric geometries, such as rib waveguides, can display nonlinear polarization effects in which the nonlinear phase difference dominates the linear contribution, provided the birefringence is sufficiently ...

Polarization Engineering in Photonic Crystal Waveguides for Spin-Photon Entanglers. [PDF]
By performing a full analysis of the projected local density of states (LDOS) in a photonic crystal waveguide, we show that phase plays a crucial role in the symmetry of the light-matter interaction.

Ion-Exchanged Waveguides in Glass Doped with PbS Quantum Dots [PDF]
The lowest-loss (≤1 dB/cm) ion-exchanged waveguides in glass doped with PbS quantum dots are presented. Near-field mode profile and refractive index profile using the refracted near-field technique were measured for these waveguides.

Low dispersion integrated michelson interferometer on silicon on insulator for optical coherence tomography [PDF]
We present an integrated silicon Michelson interferometer for OCT fabricated with wafer scale deep UV lithography. Silicon waveguides of the interferometer are designed with GVD less than 50 ps/nm. km. The footprint of the device is 0.5 mm x 3 mm.

Multimode nematicon waveguides [PDF]
We report on the first experimental observation of higher-order modes guided by soliton-induced waveguides in unbiased nematic liquid crystals. We find that the nematicon waveguides operate in a bounded power region specific to each guided mode. Below this region the guided beams diffract, above it the mode mixing and coupling give rise to an unstable ...

Freeform Phononic Waveguides [PDF]
We employ a recently introduced class of artificial structurally-disordered phononic structures that exhibit large and robust elastic frequency band gaps for efficient phonon guiding. Phononic crystals are periodic structures that prohibit the propagation of elastic waves through destructive interference and exhibit large band gaps and ballistic ...

Design of graphene-based polarization-insensitive optical modulator
By exploiting the electroabsorption effect of graphene, we present a graphene-based polarization-insensitive optical modulator. The waveguide structure consists of a silica substrate, high-index silicon strip waveguide, Si3N4 dielectric spacer, two ...

Optical waveguides in crystalline dielectric materials produced by femtosecond‐laser micromachining
Femtosecond‐laser micromachining (also known as inscription or writing) has been developed as one of the most efficient techniques for direct three‐dimensional microfabrication of transparent optical materials.
