Iron‐dependent lysosomal LDL oxidation induces the expression of scavenger receptor A in human THP‐1 monocytes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In human monocytic cells THP‐1, a limited uptake of native—not oxidized—LDL/VLDL induced expression of scavenger receptor A and cellular adhesion. Induction was inhibited by lysosomotropic (WR‐1065) and lipophilic (BHT) antioxidants and by siRNAs against ferritinophagy.

Wide-span and tunable-wavelength photon pairs around 1.55 μm from a silicon nanophotonic chip [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2013
Using a compact optically-pumped silicon nanophotonic chip consisting of coupled silicon microrings, we generate photon pairs in multiple pairs of wavelengths around 1.55 \mu m. The wavelengths are tunable over several nanometers, demonstrating the capability to generate wavelength division multiplexed photon pairs at freely-chosen telecommunications ...

Four-Photon Quantum Interferometry at a Telecom Wavelength

open access: yes, 2011
We report the experimental demonstration of four-photon quantum interference using telecom-wavelength photons. Realization of multi-photon quantum interference is essential to linear optics quantum information processing and measurement-based quantum ...

Sub-optical wavelength acoustic wave modulation of integrated photonic resonators at microwave frequencies [PDF]

open access: yesNature Communications, 2014
Light–sound interactions have long been exploited in various acousto-optic devices based on bulk crystalline materials. Conventionally, these devices operate in megahertz frequency range where the acoustic wavelength is much longer than the optical ...

An approach for coherent periodogram averaging of tilt‐series data for improved contrast transfer function estimation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The contrast transfer function (CTF) is an imaging aberration that is a major resolution‐limiting factor in cryo‐electron microscopy (cryo‐EM). Precise CTF estimation is key to overcoming this limitation, but is particularly challenging in cryo‐electron tomography (cryo‐ET) data. Here, we present an approach for using geometric information to assist in

Automatic Echelle Spectrograph Wavelength Calibration [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Time domain astronomy and the increasing number of exoplanet candidates call for reliable, robust, and automatic wavelength calibration. We present an algorithm for wavelength calibrating \'echelle spectrographs that uses order-by-order extracted spectra and a list of laboratory wavelengths.

Wavelengths of Bacterial Flagella [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of General Microbiology, 1954
SUMMARY: In sunlight dark-ground microscopy the flagella of a packet of motile sarcina appear as a smooth tail. The tails often stiffen into helices of two different wavelengths, one being twice as long as the other. The short and the long wavelengths are identical in Sarcina ureea and S. agilis. This phenomenon of two wavelengths, one twice as long as

Tunable and switchable dual-wavelength Tm-doped mode-locked fiber laser by nonlinear polarization evolution.

open access: yesOptics Express, 2015
We propose and demonstrate a tunable and switchable dual-wavelength ultra-fast Tm-doped fiber laser. The tunability is based on nonlinear polarization evolution (NPE) technique in a passively mode-locked laser cavity.

Clinical validation of myOSLchip: A beryllium oxide optically stimulated luminescent dosimeter (OSLD) system in radiotherapy dosimetry

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract In radiation oncology, inter‐fractional dosimetry using optically stimulated luminescent detectors (OSLDs) ensures accurate plan delivery and patient safety. RadPro International GmbH's myOLSchip system, featuring a beryllium oxide (BeO) OSL dosimeter, reader, and eraser, was characterized and calibrated with a Varian Truebeam for in‐vivo ...
