Mechanochemical Synthesis and Characterization of Nanostructured ErB4 and NdB4 Rare‐Earth Tetraborides

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
ErB4 and NdB4 nanostructured powders are produced by mechanochemical synthesis. 5 h mechanical alloying and 4 M HCl acid leaching are used in the production. ErB4 and NdB4 powders exhibit maximum magnetization of 0.4726 emu g−1 accompanied with an antiferromagnetic‐to‐paramagnetic phase transition at about TN = 18 K and 0.132 emu g−1 with a maximum at ...

Thermoreflectance Detection of Point Defects Resulting from Focused Ion Beam Milling

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Focused ion beam (FIB) milling is a common tool for nanoscale material processing, however irradiation damage, redeposition, and contamination can occur. We use several characterization tools to show FIB‐induced effects beyond 1 mm from the milled area.

The MLFMA Equipped with a Hybrid Tree Structure for the Multiscale EM Scattering

open access: yesInternational Journal of Antennas and Propagation, 2014
We present an efficient strategy for reducing the memory requirement for the near-field matrix in the multilevel fast multipole algorithm (MLFMA) for solving multiscale electromagnetic (EM) scattering problems.

High-Frequency Photonic Vector Signal Generation Employing a Single Phase Modulator

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2015
In this paper, we propose a novel and simple method to generate millimeter-wave vector signals using only one phase modulator (PM) and phase-precoding technique, in which the precoded microwave vector signal is used for the drive of the single PM.

On Some Problems Concerning the Seismic Field Methods [PDF]

open access: yes, 1936
The periods of longitudinal waves produced by explosions increase with distance in a similar way as earthquake waves (equation 1). The amplitudes of the waves (equation 1) depend not only on the amount of energy reflected or refracted at discontinuities,

Harnessing Fungal Biowelding for Constructing Mycelium‐Engineered Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mycelium‐bound composites (MBCs) offer low‐carbon alternatives for construction, yet interfacial bonding remains a critical challenge. This review examines fungal biowelding as a biocompatible adhesive, elucidating mycelium‐mediated interfacial mechanisms and their role in material assembly. Strategies to optimize biowelding are discussed, highlighting

A Compact Spin‐Coated Graphene UWB Antenna for Breast Tumor Detection

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A compact, spin‐coated graphene ultra‐wideband patch antenna designed for breast tumor detection, capable of distinguishing between malignant and benign tumors. This innovative antenna can serve as an effective initial screening tool, particularly in resource‐limited settings such as rural areas, where access to advanced medical equipment like MRI and ...

Investigation of Laser Ablation and Brush Pre‐Treatments for AlCu Cold Roll Bonding in Oxygen‐Free Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
It is shown that laser ablation pretreatment under oxygen‐free conditions enables copper–aluminium bonding at significantly lower deformation degrees and improved properties compared to mechanical brushing. Laser ablation further increases interface contact area and induces favourable residual stress states and microstructural compatibility ...

Evaluating the effects of large marine predators on mobile prey behavior across subtropical reef ecosystems

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, 2019
The indirect effect of predators on prey behavior, recruitment, and spatial relationships continues to attract considerable attention. However, top predators like sharks or large, mobile teleosts, which can have substantial top–down effects in ecosystems,
