Status monitoring concept for a WDM PON
International Congress on Ultra Modern Telecommunications and Control Systems, 2010We propose and demonstrate a method for simultaneous real-time status monitoring and troubleshooting of a high-capacity single-fiber bidirectional passive optical network (PON) that is based on wavelength-division-multiplexing (WDM) techniques. To avoid interference between the bidirectional traffic, downstream and upstream signals are assigned in ...

Wavelength-agnostic WDM-PON system
2016 18th International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks (ICTON), 2016Next-generation WDM-PON solutions for metro and access systems will take advantage of remotely controlled wavelength-tunable ONUs to keep system costs as low as possible. For such a purpose, each ONU signal can be labeled by a pilot tone modulated onto the optical data stream.

Incorporation of UWB services into a WDM-PON without affecting the existing wired services has the potential to provide simultaneously high data-rate and flexible wired and wireless services at low cost. In this paper, techniques to implement UWB over WDM-PON are discussed.

Fault-localization in WDM-PONs
2006 Optical Fiber Communication Conference and the National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference, 2006We propose and demonstrate a fault-localization method in wavelength division multiplexing passive optical networks. We detect the fault position using a wavelength-locked Fabry-Perot laser diode as a tunable probe light.
