WDM-PON experiences in Korea [Invited]
Journal of Optical Networking, 2007Feature Issue on Passive Optical Network Architectures and TechnologiesWDM-PON activities in Korea including research and development were reviewed. The WDM-PON commercialized in Korea is aimed at delivering a 100 Mbits/s dedicated symmetric bandwidth to each home, based on the prediction of a small statistical gain for future video-centric services ...

Survivable network architectures for WDM PON
OFC/NFOEC Technical Digest. Optical Fiber Communication Conference, 2005., 2005We propose and demonstrate a simple self-protecting architecture for WDM PON. The protection time was less than 10 ms, and the power penalty caused by the protection process was negligible.

Network Management Solution for PS/PON, WDM/PON and Hybrid PS/WDM/PON using DS-OCDM
OFC/NFOEC 2007 - 2007 Conference on Optical Fiber Communication and the National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference, 2007A novel network management solution for PS/PON, WDM/PON and PS/WDM/PON is proposed and developed. Modified DS-OCDM overcomes OTDR shortcomings and capacity limitation of known PON management techniques for standard and advanced PON architectures.

2011 International Topical Meeting on Microwave Photonics jointly held with the 2011 Asia-Pacific Microwave Photonics Conference, 2011
Reflective semiconductor optical amplifiers (RSOAs) have recently received a lot of attention as cost-effective upstream optical transmitters for wavelength-division multiplexed passive optical networks. However, the modulation bandwidth of this semiconductor device is limited to ∼1.5 GHz and the device is largely used to accommodate <2.5-Gbps ...

Dynamic Wavelength Allocation Schemes in WDM-PON
2008 IEEE PhotonicsGlobal@Singapore, 2008WDM-PONs deploying tunable lasers enable incremental bandwidth upgrade to more efficiently meet the long-term growth of user demand. We propose in this paper two dynamic wavelength allocation schemes which allow total sharing and fair sharing of the tunable wave-lengths, respectively, in such WDM-PONs. We also develop an exact analytical model based on

Dynamic reconfiguration policies for reconfigurable coded-WDM PONs
Photonic Network Communications, 2006This paper studies the issues arising when reconfiguring coded-WDM networks to provide protection against eavesdropping and it proposes a tradeoffs involved in carrying out this reconfiguration process. It commences by showing that the degree of confidentiality (DOC) and the traffic loss are two important, but conflicting, objectives in the design of ...

Connection anonymity analysis in coded-WDM PONs
Optical Fiber Technology, 2008Abstract A coded wavelength division multiplexing passive optical network (WDM PON) is presented for fiber to the home (FTTH) systems to protect against eavesdropping. The proposed scheme applies spectral amplitude coding (SAC) with a unipolar maximal-length sequence (M-sequence) code matrix to generate a specific signature address (coding) and to ...
