A Practical Coherent WDM PON

Advanced Photonics, 2011
We review the recent progresses in the coherent WDM PON technologies achieved at KAIST. Using these technologies, we demonstrate the feasibility of implementing practical long-reach and high-split WDM PONs.

WDM-PON with colorless ONUs

OFC/NFOEC 2007 - 2007 Conference on Optical Fiber Communication and the National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference, 2007
This paper describes the interest of operators for WDM PON and more particularly with colorless ONUs. Operator needs are presented and techniques to obtain colorless ONUs are reviewed.

Optical Devices for WDM-PONs

COIN-ACOFT 2007 - Joint International Conference on the Optical Internet and the 32nd Australian Conference on Optical Fibre Technology, 2007
This paper introduces optical devices for G-bit WDM- PON system. We have developed WDM-PON ONU employing the reflective semiconductor optical amplifier(R-SOA) and 16 ch WDM-PON OLT which is fabricated by the hybrid integration technology.

Study on WDM-PON Schemes

2011 International Conference on Business Computing and Global Informatization, 2011
In this paper, two main approaches: spectrum slicing technique and looped-back technique which are used in wavelength division multiplexing passive optical networks (WDM-PON) to provide fungible ONU optical sources are introduced with detail schemes evaluated as well.

Evolution scenario towards WDM-PON

Journal of Optical Communications and Networking, 2009
In this paper we present and critically discuss different wavelength division multiplexing passive optical network (WDM-PON) architectures compatible with pre-existing gigabit PON (GPON) infrastructures. The concurrent use of the trunk fiber permits a hitless evolution from an existing time division multiplexing optical access network to a pointto ...

Wavelength-agnostic WDM-PON system

2016 18th International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks (ICTON), 2016
Next-generation WDM-PON solutions for metro and access systems will take advantage of remotely controlled wavelength-tunable ONUs to keep system costs as low as possible. For such a purpose, each ONU signal can be labeled by a pilot tone modulated onto the optical data stream.

Spectrum-sliced bidirectional WDM PON

Optical Fiber Communication Conference. Technical Digest Postconference Edition. Trends in Optics and Photonics Vol.37 (IEEE Cat. No. 00CH37079), 2002
We demonstrate a bidirectional wavelength-division-multiplexed (WDM) passive optical network (PON) based on spectrum-sliced technique. This network transmits fifteen 500 Mbps downstream and fifteen 155 Mbps upstream channels over single strand of conventional single-mode fiber.

Optoelectronic Components for WDM-PON

2007 9th International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks, 2007
With the increasing demand for bandwidth, there is an ever growing interest in fibre to the home (FTTH) technologies and its deployments. Wavelength division multiplexing passive optical networks (WDM-PONs) have received a lot of attention as one of the best contenders for next generation optical access networks.

Recent Developments in WDM-PON Technology

2006 International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks, 2006
Considerable research is being conducted to exploit the potential of novel WDM-PONs exhibiting individual, data and protocol agnostic virtual point-to-point (p2p) links for each ONU. The research focuses on the deployment of uniform building blocks throughout the entire access network and on upgrading the channel data rate efficiently towards 10 Gb/s ...
