WDM multicasting in IP over WDM networks
Proceedings. Seventh International Conference on Network Protocols, 2005Supporting WDM multicasting in an IP over WDM network poses interesting problems because some WDM switches may be incapable of switching an incoming signal to more than one output interface. An approach to WDM multicasting based on wavelength-routing, which constructs a multicast forest for each multicast session so that multicast-incapable WDM ...

Network virtualization over WDM networks
2011 Fifth IEEE International Conference on Advanced Telecommunication Systems and Networks (ANTS), 2011Network virtualization can eradicate the ossification of the Internet and stimulate innovation of new architectures and applications. Optical networks are ideal substrates for provisioning high-bandwidth virtual-network services. We investigate the problem of network virtualization over WDM networks by formulating a mixed integer linear program (MILP).

Lightpath Reconfiguration in WDM Networks
Journal of Optical Communications and Networking, 2010Lightpath reconfiguration is a networking task that can be performed in order to improve resource utilization. The lightpath reconfiguration problem becomes nontrivial when a new set of lightpaths requires the release of resources previously seized by the (working) lightpaths currently in place, but, in order to ensure continuity of the traffic flow ...

Survivable routing in WDM networks
Proceedings ISCC 2002 Seventh International Symposium on Computers and Communications, 2003We consider the problem of routing the lightpaths of a logical topology of a WDM network on an arbitrary physical topology, such that the logical topology remains connected even after the failure of a physical link. In a previous paper Modiano et. al. (see Proc.

Dimensioning of survivable WDM networks
IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications, 1998In this paper routing, planning of working capacity, rerouting, and planning of spare capacity in wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) networks are investigated. Integer linear programming (ILP) and simulated annealing (SA) are used as solution techniques. A complex cost model is presented.

Photonic Network Communications, 2000
The rapid introduction of wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) technology to cope with the increased bandwidth requirements of transmission networks has intensified the need for recovery mechanisms at the optical layer. A first step towards survivable optical networking will be seen through the introduction of optical rings.

Differentiated recovery in WDM networks
Photonic Network Communications, 2011A scheme is proposed for supporting dual-failure priority-aware survivability in wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) networks with two classes of working traffic by means of a proportional spare capacity allocation strategy. The proposed scheme not only provides a differentiated recovery capability but also maximizes the capacity utilization.

Traffic grooming in WDM networks
IEEE Communications Magazine, 2001The emergence of wavelength-division multiplexing technology has led to a tremendous increase In the available transmission capacity in wide area networks. Consequently, these networks may no longer be limited by the transmission bandwidth, but rather by the processing capability of electronic switches, routers, and multiplexers in the network.

Management solutions for WDM networking
Proceedings IEEE International Conference on Networks 2000 (ICON 2000). Networking Trends and Challenges in the New Millennium, 2002This paper proposes network management solutions for wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) networking. These solutions start from the specification following the open distributed processing (ODP) to the implementation using the latest management technologies.

We discuss design considerations for wavelength division multiplexing (WDM)-based packet networks. In the near term, such networks are likely to consist of WDM links connected using some form of electronic multiplexing. The focus of this article is on the joint design of the electronic and optical layer with the objective of simplifying the network and
