Bloom compression alongside marine heatwaves contemporary with the Oregon upwelling season

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography, EarlyView.
Abstract Marine heatwave (MHW) events have led to acute decreases in primary production and phytoplankton biomass in the surface ocean, particularly at the mid latitudes. In the Northeast Pacific, these anomalous events have occasionally encroached onto the Oregon shelf during the ecologically important summer upwelling season.

Gravitational lensing in Tangherlini spacetime in the weak gravitational field and the strong gravitational field [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The gravitational lensing effects in the weak gravitational field by exotic lenses have been investigated intensively to find nonluminous exotic objects.

Gravitational lensing by a dark compact object in modified gravity and observational constraints from Einstein rings

open access: yesEuropean Physical Journal C: Particles and Fields
In this manuscript, we provide a comprehensive study of gravitational lensing by dark compact objects predicted by modified gravity (MOG) based on the scalar–vector–tensor action, with the aim of providing new insights into the nature of gravitational ...

Enhancing Conductivity and Mechanical Properties in Epoxy Composites Through Generating Percolated Structures Using Novel Acoustic Pre‐Mixing Method

open access: yesJournal of Polymer Science, EarlyView.
Utilization of resonance acoustic (pre) mixing of nanoparticles with epoxy resin resulting in synergistic percolated hybrid epoxy nanocomposite. ABSTRACT Advanced engineered materials are being used to explore and exploit harsh environments, requiring improvement in composite materials.

Weak Gravitational Lensing—The Need for Surveys [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1997
Light rays from distant sources are deflected if they pass near an intervening matter inhomogeneity. This gravitational lens effect is responsible for the well-established lens systems like multiple-imaged QSOs, (radio) ‘Einstein’ rings, the giant luminous arcs in clusters of galaxies, and the flux variations of stars in the LMC and the Galactic bulge ...

Maximum Mass Limit of Generalized MIT Compact Star: A Theoretical Study of Thin Shell Dynamics and Gravitational Lensing

open access: yesFortschritte der Physik, EarlyView.
Abstract In this study, the properties, equilibrium, and stability of compact objects within the framework of teleparallel gravity with the generalized MIT bag model are investigated. By incorporating the modified field equations, the influence of the generalized bag constant on the structure and physical characteristics of quark stars and neutron ...

Dynamics of Fermat potentials in non-perturbative gravitational lensing

open access: yes, 2002
We present a framework, based on the null-surface formulation of general relativity, for discussing the dynamics of Fermat potentials for gravitational lensing in a generic situation without approximations of any kind.

The Biased Interaction Game: A System Theoretic Approach to the Emergence of Inequality, Hierarchy, and the Implications for the Likelihood of Cooperation

open access: yesSystems Research and Behavioral Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The emergence of cooperation in natural selection has been successfully studied using game theory and, despite the underlying selfish nature of the evolutionary process, a spectrum of plausible mechanisms have been proposed to determine the conditions under which cooperative behaviour is likely to occur.

Racket sociality: investigating intimidation in North India

open access: yesJournal of the Royal Anthropological Institute, EarlyView.
This article is an ethnographic investigation into acts of intimidation and threats. Theoretically, it dialogues with ‘racket’ – a key analytical term in the sociology of domination, state‐making, and mafias. The anthropology of power, violence, and crime has paid scant attention to the morphology of threats and the ways interpersonal intimidation ...
