A Smithian Political Economy Approach for the Competition Law of the 21st Century

open access: yesThe Modern Law Review, Volume 88, Issue 4, Page 712-768, July 2025.
This study aims to show how a Smithian political economy approach could assist competition law in addressing the challenges of the 21st‐century economy. We revisit Smith's Wealth of Nations to provide a more nuanced understanding of his views, contrasting them with the prevailing libertarian interpretation called here ‘Chicago Smith’.

Simulating Image Coaddition with the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope. III. Software Improvements and New Linear Algebra Strategies

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series
The Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope will implement a devoted weak gravitational lensing program with its High Latitude Wide Area Survey. For cosmological purposes, a critical step in Roman image processing is to combine dithered undersampled images ...

Delensing for precision cosmology: optimizing future CMB B-mode surveys to constrain r

open access: yesEuropean Physical Journal C: Particles and Fields
The detection of primordial B-modes, a key probe of cosmic inflation, is increasingly challenged by contamination from weak gravitational lensing B-modes induced by large-scale structure (LSS).

Bayesian analysis of weak gravitational lensing

open access: yes, 2016
This thesis is concerned with how to extract cosmological information from observations of weak gravitational lensing – the modification of observed galaxy images due to gravitational lensing by the large-scale structure of the Universe. Firstly, we are concerned with how we can use all possible observa- tional probes of weak lensing to squeeze out as ...

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: An Offensive Realist Reconsideration of Philippine Grand Strategy

open access: yesAsian Politics &Policy, Volume 17, Issue 3, July 2025.
ABSTRACT In regions riddled with heightened security tensions from great power competition like Southeast Asia, why do states like the Philippines defy conventional rationality and hedge against their treaty ally? This paper seeks to answer this gap in the literature by arguing for a new definition of hedging that covers contemporary cases.

A Scalable Gaussian Process Approach to Shear Mapping with MuyGPs

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Analysis of cosmic shear is an integral part of understanding structure growth across cosmic time, which in turn provides us with information about the nature of dark energy.

Alternative estimators for weak gravitational lensing [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Weak gravitational lensing provides a means to measure the total mass in the Universe. The incoming light from distant galaxies is disturbed by the inhomogeneity of the dark matter distribution along the line of sight. The correlations of shape in an observed galaxy population can be used to probe the total mass density fluctuations in the Universe ...

Capturing Extraction: Geology, Photography, Industry and Institutional History in the Bingley Archive

open access: yesBulletin of Latin American Research, Volume 44, Issue 3, Page 198-219, July 2025.
Godfrey Bingley was a British industrialist who took up geology, photography and travel in the 1880s. His photographs are housed at the University of Leeds, where he worked with its Chair of Geology. This article analyses the archive's projection of the imperial geological imaginary that emanated from Britain and extended to the Americas.

Rural Land Markets and Accumulation in an Agrarian Periphery: A Class‐Relational Approach to Rentierism in India

open access: yesJournal of Agrarian Change, Volume 25, Issue 3, July 2025.
ABSTRACT Land markets are an increasingly significant byproduct of industrialisation in neoliberal India, but accumulation possibilities for rural classes through speculation are uneven. Trajectories through rents are determined not just by the social relations in impacted villages but crucially by the historically determined dynamics of the wider ...
