Weak gravitational lensing by voids [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 1999
We consider the prospects for detecting weak gravitational lensing by underdensities (voids) in the large-scale matter distribution. We derive the basic expressions for magnification and distortion by spherical voids. Clustering of the background sources and cosmic variance are the main factors which limit in principle the detection of lensing by voids.

Weak gravitational lensing of the CMB [PDF]

open access: yesPhysics Reports, 2006
Weak gravitational lensing has several important effects on the cosmic microwave background (CMB): it changes the CMB power spectra, induces non-Gaussianities, and generates a B-mode polarization signal that is an important source of confusion for the signal from primordial gravitational waves.

Weak Gravitational Lensing and Its Cosmological Applications [PDF]

open access: yesAnnual Review of Nuclear and Particle Science, 2008
Weak gravitational lensing is a unique probe of the dark side of the universe: It provides a direct way to map the distribution of dark matter around galaxies and clusters of galaxies as well as on cosmological scales. Furthermore, the measurement of the weak lensing–induced distortions of the shapes of distant galaxies is a potentially powerful probe

Current status of weak gravitational lensing

open access: yesNew Astronomy Reviews, 2002
Weak gravitational lensing of distant galaxies by foreground structures has proven to be a powerful tool to study the mass distribution in the universe. Nowadays, attention has shifted from clusters of galaxies to the statistical properties of the large scale structures and the halos of (field) galaxies. These applications have become feasible with the

Weak Gravitational Lensing

2015
In this chapter, we summarize the basics of gravitational lensing. We derive the basic equation in gravitational lensing and summarize the relation between observables and physical quantities. We then introduce some statistical methodologies to extract cosmological information from gravitational lensing analysis.

Astrophysical Systematics in Weak Gravitational Lensing

2019
Large-scale structure surveys allow us to constrain cosmology through the growth of structure and the expansion history. Together with Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) measurements from the early Universe, the standard CDM with general relativity has become a concordance model that explains the origin and evolution of our Universe for over thirteen ...
