What is the value of the superconducting gap of a F/S/F trilayer ?

open access: yes, 2003
Based on the model of F/S/F trilayer with atomic thickness [A. Buzdin and M. Daumens, cond-mat/0305320] we discuss the relative roles of pair-breaking and proximity effects, as a function of the exchange field, of disorder and of a finite thickness in ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Temporal evolution of crack propagation propensity in snow in relation to slab and weak layer properties [PDF]

open access: yesThe Cryosphere, 2016
If a weak snow layer below a cohesive slab is present in the snow cover, unstable snow conditions can prevail for days or even weeks. We monitored the temporal evolution of a weak layer of faceted crystals as well as the overlaying slab layers at the ...

Transition-Metal Pentatelluride ZrTe$_5$ and HfTe$_5$: a Paradigm for Large-gap Quantum Spin Hall Insulators

open access: yes, 2013
Quantum spin Hall (QSH) insulators, a new class of quantum matters, can support topologically protected helical edge modes inside bulk insulating gap, which can lead to dissipationless transport.

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Analysis of triggering conditions and dynamic evolution of the January 2024 snow avalanche in Kanas, Xinjiang, China using numerical simulation and multi-source data

open access: yesGeomatics, Natural Hazards & Risk
Snow avalanches represent a major natural hazard in high-mountainous regions, especially under extreme weather conditions. On 11 January 2024, a large snow avalanche occurred in the Kanas region of Xinjiang, China, causing severe disruptions to local ...

Stability Analysis of Rock Slope with Multilayer Weak Interlayer

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, 2021
The existence of the weak interlayer of the rock slope changes its mechanical characteristics. To ensure the safety of the slope, it is necessary to analyze the overall stability of the slope. Taking the double-layer weak interlayer rock slope beside 318

Weak localization thickness measurements of Si:P delta-layers [PDF]

open access: yesApplied Physics Letters, 2004
We report on our results for the characterization of Si:P delta-layers grown by low temperature molecular beam epitaxy. Our data show that the effective thickness of a delta-layer can be obtained through a weak localization analysis of electrical transport measurements performed in perpendicular and parallel magnetic fields.

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...
