Graphene nanoplatelet (0.1 wt.%) reinforcement significantly enhances the performance of β Ti‐28Nb‐35.4Zr alloy. Grain refinement, reduced water contact angle, and improved surface characteristics promote osteoblast adhesion and complete surface coverage after 7 days.

Mode locking in a periodically forced "ghostbursting" neuron model [PDF]
We study a minimal integrate-and-fire based model of a "ghostbursting" neuron under periodic stimulation. These neurons are involved in sensory processing in weakly electric fish.

Weakly electric fishes’ secret social lives revealed [PDF]
![Figure][1] A weakly electric fish Apteronotus leptorhynchus . Photo credit: Rudiger Krahe. There's a lot of chit-chat going on in the rivers of Panama, but most creatures can't even tune in. That's because the conversations are literally electric.

Energetic constraints on electric signalling in wave-type weakly electric fishes [PDF]
SUMMARY Gymnotiform weakly electric fishes generate electric organ discharges (EODs) and sense perturbations of the resulting electric field for purposes of orientation, prey detection and communication. Some species produce oscillatory (‘wave-type’) EODs at very high frequencies (up to 2 kHz) that have been proposed to be energetically ...

Fast‐Responding O2 Gas Sensor Based on Luminescent Europium Metal‐Organic Frameworks (MOF‐76)
Luminescent MOF‐76 materials based on Eu(III) and mixed Eu(III)/Y(III) show rapid and reversible changes in emission intensity in response to O2 with very short response times. The effect is based on triplet quenching of the linker ligands that act as photosensitizers. Average emission lifetimes of a few milliseconds turn out to be mostly unaffected by

Population Coding and Correlated Variability in Electrosensory Pathways
The fact that perception and behavior depend on the simultaneous and coordinated activity of neural populations is well established. Understanding encoding through neuronal population activity is however complicated by the statistical dependencies ...

Influence and optimization of the electrodes position in a piezoelectric energy harvesting flag [PDF]
Fluttering piezoelectric plates may harvest energy from a fluid flow by converting the plate's mechanical deformation into electric energy in an output circuit.

A FeN4─O/Clu@NC‐0.1Ac catalyst containing atomically‐dispersed FeN4─O sites (medium‐spin Fe2+) and Fe clusters delivered a half‐wave potential of 0.89 V for ORR and an overpotential of 330 mV at 10 mA cm−2 for OER in 0.1 m KOH. When the catalyst was used in a rechargeable Zn–air battery, a power density of 284.5 mW cm−2 was achieved with excellent ...

Encoding and processing of sensory information in neuronal spike trains [PDF]
Recently, a statistical signal-processing technique has allowed the information carried by single spike trains of sensory neurons on time-varying stimuli to be characterized quantitatively in a variety of preparations.
