Mechanical Behavior and Fracture Mechanisms of MXene/PVDF Nanocomponsites: In Situ Characterization and Multiscale Analysis

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Multiscale experiments and modeling reveal how Ti3C2Tx MXene nanosheets reinforce PVDF nanocomposites. An optimal MXene loading (∼1 wt.%) nearly doubles tensile strength through efficient stress transfer, flake alignment, and crack‐deflection mechanisms, transforming ductile polymer behavior into a controlled multi‐stage fracture pathway which aligns ...

Long term functional simulation of large diameter metal on metal hip implants [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The artificial hip replacement or total hip arthroplasty (THA), is a widely used solution to help restore hip function following arthritic disease. Pre-clinical in vitro evaluation of new designs is a vital aspect of the development of joint replacements

Wear, plastic deformation and friction of two rail steels-€”a full-scale test and a laboratory study

open access: yes, 2003
Form change due to wear and plastic deformation on a rail can reduce the service life of a track. The purpose of this investigation was to study the development of these damage mechanisms on new and 3-year-old rails in a commuter track over a period of 2

Self‐Sintering Ionogel Binder for Flexible, Recyclable, and Healable Printed Giant Magnetoresistive Sensors

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Electronic waste has emerged as a major environmental challenge, driven by the massive consumption and a limited lifetime of modern electronic devices, stimulating the development of sustainable electronics. Here, an all‐biomaterial gelatin‐choline‐citric acid ([Ch][CA]) ionogel is developed as an active binder to realize self‐sintered ...

Numerical analysis of cartilage surfaces for osteoarthritis diagnosis using field and feature parameters

open access: yes, 2011
Osteoarthritis (OA) is one of the most common degenerative wear diseases of knee joints worldwide. Within knee joint articular cartilage (AC), collagen structure losing integrity is a major symptom of OA.

Regulated Ion‐Diffusion Hydrogels for Subtle and Multimodal Temperature‐Strain Sensing in Wound Monitoring

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A soft, dual‐channel hydrogel patch enables simultaneous detection of wound temperature and strain by integrating ion‐diffusion‐mediated thermoelectric and resistive sensing. The conformal design maintains stable performance during motion, capturing subtle inflammatory and mechanical changes for continuous wound monitoring.

Memristor‐Driven Active‐Matrix Organic Light‐Emitting Diode for Energy Efficient and High‐Resolution Displays

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that memristors can replace conventional 2T–1C driving circuits with simplified 1T–1 m architectures by exploiting resistance switching. With ultra‐low switching voltages (< ±0.2 V) and multi‐level resistance states, the memristors precisely control the current injected into organic light‐emitting diodes (OLEDs).
