Wear mode and wear mechanism of retrieved acetabular cups [PDF]
Nineteen ultra-high-molecular-weighted polyethylene (UHMWPE) cups were retrieved at revision surgery. The implant period was on average 9.9 (0.25-20.7) years. The cups were classified into the high-wear group (wear rate above 140 mm(3)/year), intermediate-wear group (wear rate 80-140 mm(3)/year) and low-wear group (wear rate below 80 mm(3)/year).

A Study on Tribological Behaviour of Electro Discharge Deposited ZE41A Magnesium Alloy Using Wear Map [PDF]
The paper studied the tribological behaviour of electro discharge deposited ZE41A magnesium alloy using wear map. The wear experiments are conducted using pin on disc technique for different parameters such as applied load (1.5 kg-3.5 kg), sliding speed (

Influence of Different Displacement Amplitudes on High Temperature Fretting Wear Properties of Cobalt-Based Coatings [PDF]
In order to compare the effects of different displacement amplitudes on the fretting wear properties of cobalt-based coatings at high temperature, the CoMoCrSi coating was prepared by the oxygen-assisted supersonic flame spraying process.

Significant Improvement in Wear Resistance of CoCrFeNi High-Entropy Alloy via Boron Doping
CoCrFeNi high-entropy alloy (HEA) exhibits excellent mechanical properties but relatively poor wear resistance. In particular, when the load reaches a certain level and the deformation mechanism of the CoCrFeNi HEA changes, the formation of shear bands ...

Understanding and formalization of the fretting-wear behavior of a cobalt-based alloy at high temperature [PDF]
The purpose of this study is to investigate the mechanisms involved in the wear of cobalt-based interfaces at high temperature. The studied contact is a cobalt-based alloy subjected to fretting against an alumina sample. At high temperature, a protective third body is spontaneously created at the interface and presents excellent tribological properties.

Effects of plasma surface Ta alloying on the tribology behavior of γ-TiAl [PDF]
To improve the wear resistance of γ-TiAl alloy, Ta alloy layer was prepared on surface by double glow plasma surface alloying technique. The tribology behavior of Ta alloy layer against Si3N4 at 25℃, 350℃ and 500℃ were comparatively studied.

Mechanical modelling of tooth wear [PDF]
Different diets wear teeth in different ways and generate distinguishable wear and microwear patterns that have long been the basis of palaeodiet reconstructions. Little experimental research has been performed to study them together. Here, we show that an artificial mechanical masticator, a chewing machine, occluding real horse teeth in ...
