Wearable device-based health equivalence of different physical activity intensities against mortality, cardiometabolic disease, and cancer

open access: yesNature Communications
Current conventions, partly derived from self-reported data, typically equate 1 minute of vigorous physical activity (VPA) to 2 minutes of moderate physical activity (MPA).

Wearable microPosters

open access: yesmicroPublication biology, 2019
One barrier to communication at large face-to-face meetings, especially those focusing on scientific or technical topics, is a rapid way to understand what a person knows and thinks about before initiating a conversation. We have devised and reduced to practice an effective way to accomplish this task, the wearable microPoster.

A Wearable Textile Thermograph [PDF]

open access: yesSensors, 2018
In medicine, temperature changes can indicate important underlying pathologies such as wound infection. While thermographs for the detection of wound infection exist, a textile substrate offers a preferable solution to the designs that exist in the literature, as a textile is very comfortable to wear.

Establishment of a humanized patient‐derived xenograft mouse model of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer for preclinical evaluation of combination immunotherapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We have established a humanized orthotopic patient‐derived xenograft (Hu‐oPDX) mouse model of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC) that recapitulates human tumor–immune interactions. Using combined anti‐PD‐L1/anti‐CD73 immunotherapy, we demonstrate the model's improved biological relevance and enhanced translational value for preclinical ...

Dose-response associations of device-measured sleep regularity and duration with incident dementia in 82391 UK adults

open access: yesBMC Public Health
Background Sleep is a crucial lifestyle factor with impacts on mental and cognitive health. The associations between objectively measured sleep and risk of incident dementia are not yet fully understood.

Ambulatory Tasks and Journeys: A Framework for Free-Living Behaviour

open access: yesSensors
Background: Standard accelerometer summaries obscure meaningful differences in how people move while upright. We introduce an operational two-class Ambulatory Behaviour Framework that separates Ambulatory Tasks—periods of standing and short continuous ...

Criterion-Validity of Commercially Available Physical Activity Tracker to Estimate Step Count, Covered Distance and Energy Expenditure during Sports Conditions

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2017
Background: In the past years, there was an increasing development of physical activity tracker (Wearables). For recreational people, testing of these devices under walking or light jogging conditions might be sufficient.

Evolutionarily divergent DUF4465 domains have a common vitamin B12‐binding function

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We show that DUF4465 family proteins, widespread across bacteria from gut microbiomes, hydrothermal vents, and soil, share a common vitamin B12‐binding function. These augmented β‐jellyroll proteins bind vitamin B12 via extended loops. Our findings establish sequence‐diverse DUF4465 proteins as a widespread class of B12‐binding proteins, highlighting ...
