A DESIGN MODEL FOR INTERMEDIATE WEB STIFFENERS.
Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers - Structures and Buildings, 1996This paper presents a design method, based on strength and stiffness criteria, which takes rational account of the effects of out-of-plane web forces and of the tendency for the stiffened panel to buckle overall. The method is validated by reference to the earlier theoretical and numerical parametric study.

Buckling of Stiffened Webs by Local Edge Loads
Journal of the Structural Division, 1982A finite strip method is used for analysing the buckling of longitudinally stiffened web plates subjected to transverse local edge loading. The probLem is of particular importance for box girders, which have relatively weak flanges for resisting this type of buckling.

Tests on Strength of Coped Beams with Web Stiffening
Advanced Materials Research, 2010In steel construction, when beams have to be connected to a girder at the same elevation, beam flanges must often be coped to provide enough clearance for practical joint formation. The presence of a cope in a beam will reduce the strength of the beam in the coped region.

Longitudinal stiffeners for Girder webs; Their behaviour and design
Journal of Constructional Steel Research, 1986Abstract This paper describes nineteen tests carried out to study the behaviour of longitudinal stiffeners on web plates subjected to predominant shear loading. By considering stiffeners of various dimensions, the behaviour of inadequate and adequate stiffeners is observed and optimum stiffener proportions are established.

Design of transversely stiffened webs of I-beams
Journal of Constructional Steel Research, 1993Abstract The design rules for webs in shear given in the limit states British and Australian steel standards are reviewed. The semi-analytical complex finite strip method of buckling analysis is then used to obtain the elastic local buckling coefficients of the webs of I-beams subjected to shear when the restraint provided by the flanges is included.
