Adult pales weevils react to light and temperature cues regarding their movements in pine plantations. They remain at the base of their host trees during the day and move onto the trees after dark. A drop in light intensity to 2 fc triggers this response.

Common milkweed gardens increase occupancy by monarch butterflies and other specialist herbivores towards an urban centre

We surveyed 119 stands of common milkweed (Asclepias syriaca) across an urbanisation gradient to investigate how restored garden habitat might ameliorate the negative effects of urbanisation on specialist herbivores. Surprisingly, we found most herbivores (including the monarch butterfly) had greater occupancy on common milkweed towards an urban centre.

Comprehensive genome and stage‐specific transcriptomes reveal 14,637 genes in Listronotus oregonensis, advancing genetic insights into a key agricultural pest. Compared with related species, L. oregonensis exhibits reduced chemoreceptor gene families but expanded detoxification gene clusters, reflecting its narrow host range and adaptability.
